Appalling. Do not go anywhere near this box of rubbish. ANY softsynth sounds fat compared to this weedy little snail. The sampler is unusable......... Wow you can sequence effect parameters! BIG deal. Not worth £50!!!!!!!!!

I’ve had the MC-09 about 2 weeks now, and really enjoy it. The thing drips more acid than a dead show in the desert. The 303 emulation is good, not perfect but good. I like the character of its bass synth quite a bit. The thing that sets this box apart from others, such as the electribes, is the sequencer. The glide tie accent and rest spell A C I D. The sampler is shit for fidelity, but works live in real time for swell loops. The drums are kind of weak, but a nice addition. The effects are 24 bit, but I’m not into them. The most annoying thing about the box for me is that in vintage mode if I have the volume up, filter set to about 8-9 o’clock, and then bring the resonance down to 8-9 o’clock I can hear a crackling, sort of like a scratchy pot but it’s digital and sounds like a broken sample clicking. It can be worked around, as usually I keep the resonance up at least half way anyway. This problem is not evident when the machine is not in vintage mode, and as I like the non vintage mode about as well it’s not so bad. I’ve yet to try sequencing my outboard monosynths with the 09 but I doubt the glide will transmit, unless its as some kind of portamento on/off/value send. Still an awesome box for $100. I’m on the wait list for a XoxBox and look forward to hearing a side by side of the 2. The Xox sends CV as well so that should run glides to my Pulse+,and then I can drop some more acid and think about that future retro box. Hehe.

well, I knew this thing was kind of a toy before I bought it. but I figured that for the price it might be kind of fun and thought it might help to fight off the urge to drop the cash on an original TB-303.

my expectations were low to begin with, and yet somehow I still managed to come away feeling completely disappointed. this is by far the worst synth I have ever used. the controls don't just feel cheap - they are cheap. MIDI implimentation is horrid. the interface is totally arcane and unintuitive.

I'll have to be honest, I didn't take the time to learn the ins and outs of this bottom-of-the-barrel piece of trash. why would I?

the sound lacks any kind of dynamic. the waveforms are weak and the filter sounds like crap. the controls don't respond well to even moderately rapid tweaks, so forget about freestyling on the filter cutoff like you know you want to.

the only application I can see for this synth is for distorted mid-range lead sounds, but you'd be better off using just about any other synth.

anyone that tries to sell one based on its "surprisingly authentic" 303 emulation is lying to you straight up. I caved in and got a TB-303 very shortly after pissing my money away on an MC09 and let me tell you that there is NO COMPARISON.

I wouldn't take an MC09 for any price. I almost felt bad selling mine to some poor sucker on ebay.. but, hey, we all gotta learn somehow.

steer clear of this piece of garbage.

Heres the deal..Most people (Like me at first) buy this thing and think it sucks..BUT! I figured out how to make it the fattest acid BASS synth ever! Oh, you have one but you dont believe me? OKAY then do this: 1.Get a nice fat bass patch going (No preset BS!) 2.Sample or "capture" it into the sampler and onto one of the 4 sample locations. 3.Slightly tune original patch. 4.Sample and put sample on the next unused sample location. Keep repeating these steps and youll see what I mean! I get mine to sound seriously amazing- its BEYOND a 303! Just hit "shift" and a button (1-16) and start tweaking perams, youll get into what about half of the synth heads out there wont ever see.(especially once you sample and layer like I told you!).I know because Ive seen some "synth heads" totally clueless on this thing. And now I just told Sonic State my secret weapon of choice for ACID MONO BASS FROM HELL; Sample + layer=Blow some speakers! Dont use this machine for anything else or you will be pissed off! Oh yeah, the outputs and ins totally suck; RCA's and a minijack headphone out. Still, I will keep this cheap mutant decendent of the 303! It sounds GOOOD! :)
