The Roland MC-4 Microcomposer is a great all round sequencer for pre-MIDI (unless you use a CV to MIDI device!). If you get hold of a OP-8 interface you can use the MC-4 to control Roland DCB synths like the Juno 60 & Jupiter 8 (with DCB). Some people don't realize that you can input data with a CV Gate keyboard (like the Roland System 100M keyboard), this avoids having to use the step input on the numeric keyboard. You can create simple 8-16 step sequences replicating an analog sequencer; this is done using the cycle mode. Vince Clarke has just sold six of his MC-4s and seems to have reverted to using a laptop... I know that 'Kontour' has one of his machines and is using it on current material for Some Bizzare Records. At the time of release 'Landscape' were featured in the advertising campains as using it. Users include Vince Clarke, Fad Gadget and The Human League

Bought my MC4 for £120.00 pounds about a year ago (August 2001), using it with my Linn Drum and Juno 6 , amazingly easier to use than a midi set up for drum, bass and chord effects , . If you want to recreate Human League style songs or anything 80's , even modern dance music , then this is the machine to have , no questions asked .

Yes indeed. Vince Clarke has ditched MIDI due to its "sloppy timings" in the studio. He has been sequencing using Cv/gate with a bank of Rolad Mc4's. I dont know too many people who have these and let alone even heard of em..id be interested to hear how they work as well...
