hook up your mks/jx with an oberheim matrix 1000 via midi (they are sonically similar) and - hey presto! - you got yourself amazingly fat, beautifully shimmering, rich pads la Matrix-12 or Jupiter-8...

The Super JX can sound just as big as a Jupiter-8, might be even a little weirder, yet is silkier in tone and lacks that slightly annoying metallic and nasal 80s quality that both jupiters 8 and (more so) 6 exhibit. I think the hype surrounding Jupiters sucks, and i believe the JX sounds less "period" or dated. Sold my JP-6 to get an MKS-70 with programmer, and, boy, the programmer ist WAY better suited to sublte fingering than the big clumsy sliders on the jupiter keyboards. interested in hearing your opinions...

Bought mine for 350.00 as a rack mount replacement for my jupiter 6 I had sold a few years earlier. It is heavey and like most of the MKS series will stick out the back of all but the deepest racks. The sound is excelent!! The long flouresent display is one of it's best features! Patches can be song titles (18 characters) and can be easily read from 10 feet away in the dark! Capable of huge "Manheim Steamroller" type voices. Built like a tank, mine has never given me any trouble. Factory presets are passable with a few tweaks. Lots of creative possibilities. Played from my Kurzweil Midiboard, filters respond to pressure like nothing else! It is the perfect compliment to any stack and stands on it own as well. It can emulate FM sounds as well as FAT Oberheim analog. 12 Voices stackable..very flexible. Chorus is good, but pulse width mod is sadly missed. Don't be afraid of the interface. Parameters can be dialed in very quickly with a little practice. Sonicly blows away most synths, but I miss the intamacy of the JP6 's real buttons, LED indicaters and sliders. Time and money well spent! I will NEVER part with it. Much other gear has come and gone, this module is forever!

Just got my Roland MKS70 and I am extremely happy with it! I have a PG800, too! Since this is my first synth it will take some time to get behind everything but one thing I can say for sure: the sound is fantastic! Really analog sounding - and this synth can make about any type of sound, but its especially good for pads, leads and cool, creepy sound fx. 5 out of 5!! Btw., I got Version 1.04 - does anybody know what type of improvements until V1.08 were made? I wont need Sounddiver or other soft librarian support, I just want to know if some other things would be improved and if it would be useful for me to upgrade, if I come across 3 ICs here in germany that is. Great machine!!
