I've been using the MKS-70 in combination with the Roland Gk1 pickup and a Fender Silver Anniversary Strat for studio track recording for the past 10 years. There is still nothing to date that can compete with this sound module. I highly recommend getting the latest rom version,1.08 (free from Roland)and adding a Roland PG-800 programmer. The pg-800 allows the user to fully access all of its potential sound variations. This is truly, a vintage synth for the books!

Mks-70 is great analogue synth module. Strings and pads are its strenghts, leads and bass sounds are good. The price of this and JX-10 is incredibly low at the moment. And people are buying vst synths.. hmm..;-)

Some common Mishaps about this fine machine.
YES it has pulsewith modulation ,only not on both dco lines. Switch crosmod to position 1 tune both dco's to same pitch , select square wave and open lfo to pitch slider to modulate dco2, hey presto PWM.
The mks 70 and jx10 are not just 2 jx8p's bolted together, they have a function over the 8p that is vital in synthiworld, the filter res fully oscillates, not on the 8p.
Ive owned about every analog on the planet , including all rolands and the mks70 is probably there best achievement, does every type of sound well (ALSO basses if you can program that is) , very sleek and wide sounding, very prophet 5 rev3 type brass. Pads are better than anything from oberheim that i owned (tjee that OB8 was no match for this) and they are CHEAP compared to other polys. typical around 450 USd for mks 70 with pg800.
A software editor is not a substitute for a pg 800 , be sure you get the programmer or you wil never get the best out of this machine.
All of the rolands (jupe 8 , sh5,jupe6 etc) lack an organic sound or sound to electronic (sh5 is incapable of anything else than sounding like a 1976 version of reaktor software) BUT the mks70 /jx10 are the exceptions.
Really a must buy for the synthlover.
take care

This synth excels at creamy smooth textures and pads; very little spike or attitude, but excellent for sweetening a track.

Simply put - this glistening module can't be beat for the current price! I see 'em on ebay for roughly $250.00 USD.. Ass kicking price for a compact analog ROLAND synth... If you have a small studio space or "corner" like I have, this is an ideal analog synth for a rack at max capacity! Get one Mate!! Juicy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......PROGRAMMING BULLOCKS........... I don't have the pg 800 programmer, so I'm spending tons of extra time editing from the front interface (Two BLOODY Fingers on that bastardo interface!!) SO - HOW DO THE SOUNDS ONBOARD BLOODY STACK UP YE OLDE BASTARD???!.... Hmnnn, that is a tough question, well, they're - smooth and somewhat glistening, like a lousy english fox hunting tapestry with ketsup smeared all over it. I've chewed out some whacked noise bastard pads and some silky pink soothing pussy thrust like pads.. Excellent smooth sounds, very eighties indeed..Somtimes i feel they're a little too smooth...The chorus is like a just out of the oven glazed crispy creme doughnut...Sweetened to the max. If you're looking for Roland quality analog this is definately a good stop. I've read reviews of comparisons to other roland synths... Well, I've owned quite a few Juno's 6, 60, and 106 and I find this synth not at all related to the Juno line.. The MKS 70 is silkier than the junos... This one's kinda uncomparable. Also, if you can - try one out before you go ebay hopping!
