The MKS80 is so great! It sound, as many has said before, something in between JP8 and JP6. MKS80 can do many things the JP8 can't do. So in the end I prefer MKS80. (JP8 has nics HP filter and is a bit warmer)
The presets on this synth is really crap. It takes a while to get into the programming. I almost sold mine. Today I'm very glad I did'nt.
If you rate this synth a 4 or less one of the following sentences is correct about you. 1) You are insane 2) You don't know how to program a synthesizer 3) 1 and 2 combined.

Well, I guess you guys got the good MKS80s. Mine saves edits for 5 minutes, then no more. Weird problem. Anyone ever heard of this? It sat in the shop for FOUR (!!!) freakin months in North Hollywood.. beware of that place if anyone lives nearby! The problem is STILL unresolved, so back it goes, while I call Roland for a clue to the issue. This anal-logue globber-blobber seems a bit overrated to me. I had a JUP 6 and I am sooo sorry I sold it. It blows away the MKS80 in all regards, and I am an experienced synthesist. Sorry to be so dismal, and I will sell this thing, even the MPG80 separately. On to safer pastures...

Excellent synth! Very durable workhorse. Easy to program (with the MPG80). I like to have synths that don't overlap too much in my sound palette so this one is a perfect complement to my Moog Voyager rack. Think like Fenders and Gibsons, they sound very different but have their uses. If you don't like variety, just keep on buying and collecting Moogs...

hey, it's not that hard to admit, but a quality of a synth is its individual sound not that it can sound as something else. i have a LAMM, MKS-80, Andromeda and xpander as analog gear and they all are different thank god. i find the MKS very lively and expressive especially the velocity mod sounds. it sounds very dynamic and quick, quite bright and elegant. the filters are not "cool" c'mon! that's ridiculous :) it is a cool piece of gear and blows easily the VAs away as the rest of my analogs. anyway! good music! best to you all

Well, the filters in the rev. 4 mks 80 are the quite similar to the ones in the JP6, JP8, Juno 60 and Juno 106. I don't find them cold personally...they do have the roland sound though, which a lot of people want just as much as a moog or sequential sound. The difference between the MKS and JP8 is the oscillator design. I wont bore people with details, but the JP8 oscillators produce a sound considered by some more desirable. Personally I like the MKS sound for what it is. It has become an essential piece of kit and compliments my FS1R with brilliant contrast. I also have a few VA's, and for the sort of sounds that fall in the programming range of the MKS it wins every time. As was mentioned below it sort of sounds like a JP6, so don't expect a Minimoog here. As a sound designer I value synths for how their sounds vary. I have a minimoog, and that's minimoog enough. I want the Super Jupiter just as is! Different tones, thank god.
