Best Drum Machine Ever.
I out-bid somebody on eBay and got one again. I used to own one, and the dumbest thing I ever did was to hock it years ago. When I once again had the time to make music - I searched far and wide for a machine which could cut the mustard the way the R-70 did. All I found were toys - the whole Dr. Rhythym line and all (some of which are OK, I settled on a 670, but still - a toy by comparison). The ones available today are great if you want to make dance or rap music. But I need to simulate a REAL drummer, and to write beats from scratch to fit custom parts and compositions - looping existing beats is not my scene. This machine is the only one I know which can fool a drummer into thinking I used a real drummer on my last demo. I am a very happy man to have an R-70 again.

Extremely beautiful machine. Very ductile. Fully Programmable, but no easy programming...in combination with my Radium61 & CubaseSX3 is a hard beast. It has all the little things that wanna make me do a hard knock with a heavy hammer in Roland's face, like the embrassing MIDI functions, etc...but once you can get a step further about it, you just lov'er. I use an R8 mk2 some time, but i doesn't miss it not even a bit. This beast makes you go from elektro to hard metal with just a little of transpiration, and if you get the plus of a guitar pedal from one of the separate outs, the world belongs to you my friend. Think: why Trent, Prince, Juan Atkins, etc.etc. prefeers this little grey box? why?why? Beacause of it. Cheers from the South-South...Chris

Guys do your research, you will not find a better drum machine, it does it all midi, auto pattern generation, intercahnge all parts of the drum kits, effects, and sounds like a real drummer. I have even had drummer complimemt my drum sounds. I will never part with it. If you see one buy it, read the manual and run with the Big Dogs!

This is a beautiful drum machine, pads has a really nice feelings , effects are quite good ,and sounds are perfect , if you find one of this around buy it! It's a very "high quality" kind of equipment, and if you look at its feature you'll see that with it you can do "almost anything that midi can do". Now i use it as a drum sound module for plates and it's just like hearing a real drum. iI would never sell mine.
