Rhodes 660: Take the time to arrange the presets properly and you're one button away from any sound the machine can deliver. The main acoustic piano is a Steinway so convincing, people swear it was sampled at Abbey Road. Piano #5 is a Yamaha dead nuts. Basses are very usable, best when used with a flat amp with lots of headroom. Mix and match in Stereo. Amaze your friends, confound your enemies. I have five of these and one 760. The thing sounds GIGANTIC. This is the most stage friendly keyboard ever made. Egad, why am I saying this!? Now everybody will want one. Or two.

i have a model 760 - 76 keys - love this keyboard - owned it since 1990 - use it live in a band - it is my go to keyboard eventhough i have a korg m1 and a roland exr - great piano - great string - great brass (need brass card) - rhodes sound is crappy, but ext-7 makes up for it, hammond sound is average but exr-7 has better - had to fix a few times over the years as the layering buttons were not making contact - other than that i still use it and am looking for another for potential replacement parts.

We use the model 660 mainly for it's piano sounds. When EQ'd correctly, these are still some of the best. Even better than some of these "stereo-sampled" patches put out today.

The drum sounds are very flat and unresponsive. Even with the "Rock Drums" card installed, nothing very impressive here. Well, the "Gong" is pretty good.

I am very disappointed the Roland (Rhodes) never bothered to put the Vintage Rhodes sounds in this keyboard that bears it's name. The EPs are crap and the organs leave an organist wanting quite a lot more. There is a Pipe Organ card available, but the only things they add is a somewhat decent Church Organ.

A couple of the Roland Sound Cards are essential to make this synth operate and give you the color you need for performance. First and foremost is the Electric Guitar card (#9). The jazz guitars are superior. Some of the distorted are fairly good. If you compare them to sounds from say Roland's XP-10 (1995), the Rhodes wins!!!

Second, the Super Acoustic Guitar (#14) adds the acoustic guitars you WANT to hear. Not that preset crap that's in the "A GUITAR" bank.

Two other cards, Sax & Trombone (#12) and super strings are very good. The saxes sound great. Yes, I said that. The saxes from this keyboard (with the sax card) sound great!!!

Cards you may or may not want:

Ethnic (unless you want those Sicas and Santurs)

Electric Grand (utter garbage)

Synthesizer (included in ROM)

Guitars & Keyboards (included in ROM)

Sound Effects (not to many, but a great Waterphone)

Rock Drums (crap)

A good source for these cards and their sound charts is jim.collins@ncmc.com. I got my guitar card from him, and it looked brand new!!! Plus he faxed me sound charts for free.

This synth has an arpeggio for creating cool intros and includes split keyboard and dual voice capability chorus and reverb, this synth is under estimated, it can produce some nice sounds
