can't get it less than $6000!?! that's a bit extreme, don't you think? i've bought 2 within the last year; the first for $600 and the second one for $400 off of ebay. the first one was damaged in shipping and i had it insured. the second is in mint condition and indeed an awesome unit. if i had had a choice between the 770 and the 760, i would've gone for the 760. 1/3 the size and twice the RAM. it's great that the 770 has a hard drive, but it's only 40mb. and if it needs replacing, it will set you back $900 - s760 fully expanded is much better.

you know whats weird? these things must be rare because i see that there was a review in 98 (4 years ago) and then there was a huge 2 year gap where no one reviewed it. Thats weird!!! I want one now! Can someone loan me 15 grand? :)

This sampler is only used by wealthy audio engineers and Platinum selling recording artists. The S-770 is 12 years old but , let me tell you - it was more than 10 years ahead of its time when it came out and is still the number one sampler to use .. HANDS DOWN . It is the recording world it is known as the Lambourghini of samplers. In 1990, for a 16MB S-770, it would have cost you over 15 Thousand dollars . Today they are not much cheaper. DO NOT , I REPEAT , DO NOT SELL FOR LESS THAN $6,000 . THESE HAVE TOP OF THE LINE APOGEE A/D CONVERTORS AND ARE HIGHLY RARE AND VALUABLE. HOOK IT UP VIA BITSTREAM CD PLAYER INTO THE S-770 AND PLAY BACK DIGITALLY AS WELL... WHAT YOU WILL HEAR IS YOUR CD BEING PLAYED BUT IN YOUR SAMPLER WITH ZERO PERCENT LOSS .....A 100% ACCURATE COPY .....IT'S LIKE PLAYING YOUR CD WITH YOUR FINGERS! THESE SHOULD ACTUALLY BE ILLEGAL BECAUSE IT'S THE ONLY 100% ACCURATE SAMPLER THAT HAS THAT LUXURIOUS ROLAND SOUND.
When you own one of these you will see that it is better than a Fairlight, and a Synclavier. Simply the best sampler in the world . The best. Its like Beluga Caviar times 10.
Be careful though .....these are rare and have an extremely high resale value and will cost you more than the price of a car. I GUARENTEE IT.
These are luxury items and you will have to have either scored Gladiator, Titanic, or Star Wars to be able to use one.
THE ROLAND S-770 IS THE ONLY SAMPLER THAT GETS THE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL.... INFACT THEY WERE ACTUALLY USED IN THE 1998, 1994, and 1990 OLYMPICS FOR ALL THE SOUND EFFECTS IN THE HOCKEY MATCHES. They OIC Purchased 8 Units from Roland in 1990 and are still being used today!!!!!!!
FIFTEEN STARS - S-770 - THE LUXURY SAMPLER FOR RICH PEOPLE

Probably the Rolls Royce of samplers. The s770 is so packed full of features that after three years of using it I still have only scratched the surface. Not as used as Akai, which suits me fine as the filters are really distinctive and leave the competion standing.
This was Rolands flagship sampler back in 1990 and cost an unbelivable £4800. You can pick up good secondhand examples for as little as £500 - Tip: if your buying one make sure it has the RAS board installed which accepts additional memory (max 16meg) as Roland no longer have these in stock. Happy sampling. Ken.
