It's definitely fun to program - though the 4-part multitimbrality isn't much good with only a stereo pair of outputs : (
It's also very much a one-trick-pony, as itabuna pointed out - cool for bass and leads, yet sorely lacking in the pad / organ / strings dept...
The RedSound Darkstar is a much better all around bang-for-the-buck, stacks up evenly spec-wise, and is less than half the price of the SH-32.

This is a great little synth. Unlike some other similar desktop synths, this one has 32 note polyphony and is 4-part multitimbral, which was an important purchase consideration.
I think that the important point of the SH-32 is that it's fun to program. The interface, knobs, and sliders make creating your own patches fun -- and *that* is what is really great about it. My only criticism is that the presets lack some of the more organic string & brass sounds. The presets fit a groovebox more than a multi-purpose desktop synth. Still, it sounds great.

Wave Acceleration Synthesis: "This is a new approach to sound generation that permits creation of a wide variety of high-qaulity waveforms, while featuring numerous oscillators, something impossible with simple DSP synths." In other words, its a Polyphonic VA, but it still sounds Phat as Phuck :-) Im gonna give it a 5 for sound, a 5 for interface, and a 3 for MIDI functions, this unit is quite small but it packs quite a punch, not a Groove Box per se but more akin to the ER1/AN200/JP8080 etc...

Wow! Just taded my Quasimidi Raven in for this little beauty and it's probably the best thing I ever did (the most stupid was trading my Z1 for that dreadful Raven). I find it very straight forward, excellent sound-quality (actually it beats the shit out of any original SH), nice drumsets. Using it as a multitimbral sound-module is an option, but it cuts the device short on its credits. Pumping arpeegiator, looks cool, build like a tank. If you wanna have some dancefloors trembling, get one. Get one today! Steal one, if you have to (but not mine...) :-)

First, Im no hedonist but I went home so many times from "synthie-shopping" with much more expensive and bigger gear but I never felt so happy with my new toy like when I got home with this one... I guess this is what people wanted when they asked Roland to re-release the TB. And it goes way beyond! From bubbling basses to spheric pads this little beast handles all of them with unbelievable power. It truely combines the sound of a grown up synth like a Waldorf Q, JP-8080, NordLead2 and others in this league with the fun of having a toy like a 303 in your hands. GO GET IT! GET IT FAST! GET TWO! (btw.: dont rate it until you GOT one!)
