I had the oportunity to have one in my studio for a month... i have to admit that it can make a tune on its own beacause the sounds are so rich...

the only drawback is that its expensive and some models have become unrellyable because of overuse and abuse.

I wonder why Roland dont reissue all their classic machine...

hahaha a roland mc505 to replace a 808 .. look Iwe gone through loads of samplebased kits of the 808 from emu to roland in a a/b comparison and hell if it was as easy as that everyone would just have a electribe em1 and sell there 909 and 808s, but its not. u alwys lose bottom end !Always!, u !Always! lose the authentic feel and therefor the charaghter in the mix and u never get induvidual outs for every sound .. lets face it it is the best sounding drummachine in the world !! exepect to pay big bux for it! it's its sound that inspiers you!! now the 808 is making a huge re-comback, its all over ambient and morden hiphop (booty delicious) aswell every other style out there.. 808 forever.

This is really one of the greatest drummachines all times. Don't listen to people who say tha a MC-505 does a good 808 immitation. That's just bullshit. Crappy samples don't come close to the real thing.

It's not cheap, but If you have the money, it is certainly woth buying it. Also the triggers out are verry cool. Just hook them up to an arpeggiator and you have lot's of fun.

Yu don't need midi. Just hook it up to a midi->sync converter and the 808 syncs perfectly to the midi clock. I have hooked it up to an MPC. That's great!!!

There are still so much famous artists who still use this drummachine.

I paid about 525 US dollar for mine. That's a good price. S1000 is ridicules. I think a perfect 808 could have a maximum price of 700 US dollar. But that offcourse depends of where you live.

Take my advice and get an MC505 to replace your 808 The 505 has a very authentic sounding 808 kit(+909.606 ,707,CR78 and loads of other kits too) I had a real 808 which i bought about 10 years ago but the lack of midi meant it was gathering dust. They do sound good but are way overpriced these days. Mine cost a mere 100 compared to the 600 you pay today.
