Like it or not, the 808 gets 5 out of 5. The machine is a classic and sounds damn good. I personally do not own one, nor am I am going to buy one at the current going price. It's a piece of history like the 909 and 303. you have to respect it. To Each their own!! Now..stop complaining..and make some music.

Really people, if you can't have the the actual box,don't like it, whatever for whatever reason, and can afford the CD, this CD is really, really good. Sorry, but once it's printed, the dance audience doesn't care how you got the sounds. To those who claim those of us without the actual box, are jelouse, you are on some stupid childish tripp. I can afford the box, I don't want one. I know someone who has one, if want to use it. I don't need to. I don't want to. I guees the piano is over used, I guess the guitar is over used, I guess the sax is over used, WHATEVER!, I've found that musicians, or the lack thereof, usually make comments that a particular "sound"/instrument is overused becuase A) they usually don't like the sound of the instrument, in the first place or B)aren't innovative enough to do something sonically, or musically with it, so to totally dismiss it, they state "IT'S OVERUSED",ending usually with "it needs to be retired". They are usually sound programmers. For instance, I had the guts to say **I don't care much for the 909, and why** I also stated that I've had other people state they are sick of it for pretty much the same reason. It's just about everywhere, but you know what? It's not overused, I'm just sick of it, I've never really cared for it, and I like the 808 better. That's all. I use samples of it too, however one should process the hell out of the sound. Anyway, my philosophy: love the sound, don't be dogmatic about the process, get it anyway you can. Some people don't like working in pattern based sequencers. So we use samples. The audience doesn't care, if your tracks groove. Sorry, never have suffered from gear lust junky, and got into the "let me show you my toy" , I got something you don't got, attitude. That's totally stupid and childish. Yes, purists, put your dicks.................... away. Thank you.

This is one of the greatest instruments ever created. This is the only drum machine (not counting ones that have three million sounds to choose from) that I can think of that can be used to make tracks for Hip-Hop, R&B, Techno, House, Jungle, Drum N Bass, Freestyle, Bass, Reggae, Electro, Pop, Jazz, Latin, Rock N Roll, or almost any other style of music (especially electronic/dance type genres) equally, and have it sound at home on all of them. You can tweak the sounds on it, which are some of the best, unique, coolest, soulful, yet mechanical sounds ever created. Very original, electronic percussion sounds. It has multiple outputs! The programming system is good. Whether you choose the original machine, (if you can find/afford it) or samples of it is irrelevant, same with the 909, etc. Normally, having the actual machine itself is best, of course. But, if you're that person with the A3000 that said that they could do all of that stuff, cool. But, then again, they are the exception, not the rule. By the way, EVERY POSSIBLE SOUND? What CD is this? I would like to find it. Also, I keep seeing people say that "these sounds are old, blah, blah, blah". Well, they can be if people keep always using them the exact same way. You're missing the point, though. The 808 is a beautiful drum machine, and so is the 909, and a billion other instruments. Rock N Roll fans and musicians don't say, "Guitars are old". If it sounds good, use it. Everything is not always about new technology, or vintage technology. Why not both? Should people stop playing trumpets in Jazz? Should Hip-Hop D.J.'s (or turntablists, whatever you want to call them, same thing!) quit scratching because it's "old". Combine the old and the new. The TR-808/909 can not get old. I've heard the 909 used on Hip-Hop records completely differently than it would be on a House record. One example of this is Ice-T's first album, Rhyme Pays. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE TR-808 IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, IN WHATEVER FORM YOU USE IT IN. Even if the 808 sounds are off of a cheap BOSS drum machine, the point of all of this is to make good, creative, entertaining, artistic music to listen/dance to. There's a difference between elevation and trendy bu------. Oh, yeah, certain people need to get off of this site with their ignorant comments. Leave this to actual reveiws. One peice of ---- a------ m----------- needs to go to a Nazi website, or something like that, and some other people sound intelligent saying some things, but then say retarded, ignorant things along with it. Come on, no one needs that.
