There's a reason that nobody gives this machine a lower score than 5 out of 5. It's simply the best and easiest for lining up dance beats. I have an MPC60II as well and they cooperate very well together. It's really nice that the 909 has MIDI capability. It makes this great sounding vintage peice of equipment very usable in a variety of setups. Mono, stereo, individual outs; din sync in, MIDI in, out, tape sync; analog, tweakability; many patterns stored in memory; easy to program...... What more can you ask for? I've played with the Jomox and it's really cool too, but I like the sounds better on the 909 and I like the commodore64-style computer keys! Was this thing really just designed for practicing guitar with?? One thing to mention: The TR-909 is really BIG! It's as large as the MPC60II. Make way!

5 out of 5, because this simple 20 years old analog drum box still can not be beat with influx of new european analog manufactures, either lack the sequencer or simply lack, but new digital technology capability have surpass 909 for sure......

I would have to agree with Obis(hehe odd name?). I have both Tr909 and Jomox XBase90. I like the sounds of the tr909 better, but jomox got so much more flexibility. Anyways, those sounds are so used up and you do have to compress the guts out of it to get some good sounds. Now I can find similar or better sounds from other sources. But I still carry the tr909 to gigs just for looks!. i like the red blinking lights! hehe
