The TR 909 is simply the best drum machine ever ! I'm speaking about non-sampling drum machines so I don't mention the sp 1200 or MPC3000 or.... I don't think 808's sounds are as good as 909 ones. 909 is better for its 6 bits digital hihats. If I knew what model of real hihat Roland has sampled to put into the 909, I would buy one and sample it into my SP12... You can use the sequencer to control any other midi machine (sampler, drumstation...). But the only bad point for me in the 909 is that when recording a pattern, you can't select what sequence you want to change between internal sounds sequence and external control. So in live session, you must stop the sequence to change the editing mode.

After trying/buying numerous drum machine simulators....finally broke down and got the real deal...It is all what they say it is....a difference between a girl and a woman...the sound is simply fantastic(kick/snare)....to die for...got it for $1000...it will add life to my numerous productions.....it will be anviled and caressed....stop buying the weak stuff....save your bucks and get it....

hi 909 freakz,i own one for some time now and i would realy freak out if it would breakdown. Not only because of the outragious prices they go for but because the sound isn't replaceble by a cheap sample or a drumkit of the original thing! For example take the clap and snare ,it changes every time you trigger it so that it gives you that super sound in snare or claprolls,it realy is so huge it knox your sox off!! I also own a novation drumstation and in comparison it isn't that bad but it really does not make it because of the things i told earlier. The bassdrum is also much longer in fully opend decay so it gives bigass power...... a fan!!!!!!.....

Not all 909's sound the same, esp the bass drum. This also applies to 808's, So if your buying one i would advise you to check it out. You can't beat the power of the 909 and the class of an 808.

4 More Than Just 4/4 a professional user from US writes:
Transister Rhythm 909 is what it is and does what it does well,it's sounds are tune able with individule outputs. It has the tightest bass drum I ever heard and crispy hi- hats that will cut threw any track. It shuffles and flams,it will sequence one external midi channel/instrument.It also has a trigger out, that is very handy, provided you have some older gear thats needs a good triggering. If you are creative with the 909 it wont let you down.
