To me the VK8 is the best Organ out. It is not made to sound exactly like a B3, but of the more older classic tonewheel organs. I've tried a lot of different kinds of the style organs but this one won. I play gospel music evey Sunday so I knw my stuff.
I tried the Korg CX-3 but i just didnt like the feel of the keys, they felt like cheap plastic). It not like a real organ. I tried to use it with with a module but the keys wouldnt respond to velocity so which is another reason why i chose the VK8.
It has so many features that are useful. The fact that it dosent have a display screen is a plus for me becuase it loks more like an older organ. Everybody talks about have they want these portable organs to look and feel like a hammond b3 but in reality you wont find a dsplay screen on the older ones. YOu will find other voices such as pianos and guitar though ( on older hammonds) I love the fact i can layer the organ with piano. And many time i use my module and have bass and split the organ to have piano, and strings.
The sound is great. It really kicks butt.. I dont even have to have the bass pedals because the split button allows you to play the bass part with your left hand and upper with your right hand. And my church has a subwoofer so when i play the bass it really kicks and sounds better than the 400 lbs. organ.
I cant understand why the korg cx3 was so high, Its not even a real organs . The roland VK8, Hammond XK2 are real organs... Do you know why? Becuase of the fact you can hook it to the leslie... Think about it! Korg dosent have one.. However I do use the Korg triton Rack with the vk8.
With all of the tone wheel effects and leakageit sounds very thich and rich.. Dont get this organ if you are not a serious player.
