a fantastic instrument. i tried several vocoders but this one is really different. it has a very warm, musical character. maybe because it works different inside, don't know. the electronic choir on this machine is still of unmatched quality. use it with a RE-301 tape delay and a long reverb and you will agree that this sound can compete against a mellotron. the most interesting thing is the hold-function which freezes the spectrum of your voice or other input signal by using the foot switch. unfortunately it can't hold it forever, so you will notice a slight decay in volume. you can also feed the synthesizer section with external input. i came very close to the mellotron string sound by just singing an "eee", freezing it, and playing the notes on a hohner string melody that was connected to external input. try this with another vocoder and you won't get that sound. overall it sounds very good. the only bad thing is that terrible note-skipping that nulls all running envelopes if you release all keys and press one again. you have to make sure that there is always a note being played - weird.

The Best Vocoder next to the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder I bought a Mint almost new!!! no scratches nor dings they hardly used it in my opinion.Don't really need the filter section like the SVC-350 I'd rather have the internal Saw wave and Keys and loose the Eq. and the choir and string vco's are great but for some reason like it is monophonic/poly??the notes sometimes get choped off is this normal?Any how it is very clear and sounds beautiful wouldn't sell it for the world next to my TB-303/TR-606. If you can find one and are looking for a Vocoder with a clear sound this is the One better than the VC-10 IMO...

This is a fine peace of equipement.I bought it for 1000 DEM last year with a malfunction.I fixed it.VP 330 I use on live gigs and in studio.Very warm and beautiful sound on vocoder especialy with a female singer.It is also great for use with drum loops to modulate sound from it or from external source.I have SVC 350 rack version also and it is beter because of advanced filtering with equilizers and seams to me that the sound is thicker (not so aquarel) than on VP 330.

This is one of about five instruments that I wouldn�t let go of if they held a gun to my head. It just sprinkles magic all over everything I do. The choirs on this chunk of wood and metal is *the* most beautiful sound I�ve ever known , ever since I was a kid I loved it (not knowing what it was)from Laurie Anderson , New Musik and Vangelis. And having had it in my studio for quite a number of years now and using it all the time I should get tired of it , you think , but no.
The vocoder itself is not very flexible of course , it doesn�t have the band eq of its rack brother SVC350 and have no fancy stuff whatsoever. But who cares? The sound is unbeatably sweet and if you want to fiddle with frequencies then there are a lot of other models to choose from these days. They still can�t touch the VP for soul.
And another thing , Roland supposedly changed the circuits for the choir sound somehow with the transition to Mk II. Exactly what the sonical differences might be I cannot imagine but I made sure to get the Mk I just in case. Looks better with the classy organ rocker switches too :-)

Do not think this is like any of the virtual vocoders of today, I have one boxed as new! It sounds and looks beautiful. What can i say! If you get the chance buy one.
