Originally bought w-30 in 1989 after seeing it at earls court music exhibition. I paid 1500 uk pounds for back it then at music village who were based in chadwell heath essex. sold it some several years later for 500 pounds.
Bought another one recently, but was in a very bad way, it needed some seroius work: I replaced electroluminesence back light this is a common fault, resoldered dry solder joints on headphone and sample jacks PCB, removed and cleaned all keys in a mild bleach solution also cleaned all keyboard contacts as several keys did not work. The Jog cursor had came off its mount, this was simple to fix. reconnected aftertouch circuit, bought SCSI mod chip and downloaded SCSI operating system to allow my SCSI Iomega zip drive to load samples. And now I have a perfect fully serviced keyboard

I've had mine now for 14 years, and it's never let me down. I use it primarily as a live sequencer and controller keyboard, although I still use the sampling section for drum loops and other noises.
The sampler is 12-bit, but does have internal 16-bit processing (all the ROM sounds are 16-bit, 30KHz). There are programs out there (notably the offline W-30 editor, available at http://w30.frankie.sk/) that allow you to import 16 bit samples into the W-30s memory. I've used trick to EQ and normalise samples using Sound Forge for ages. It also allows me to create loops in Cakewalk (my studio sequencer) and put them into the W-30 without having to re-sample them for live outings.
I rate this far higher than any of the crappy phrase samplers around that don't allow creation of "melodic" sounds. This does both.
