i got my xp10 back in 98 and learned to play the keyboard with it. maybe that makes me prejudice, but after learning it inside and out, you can get some kicka$$ sounds out of it. the basic waves are richer than alot ot synths for some reason. the bass ends on most pads and organs are extremely fullbodied and textured. the arpegiator is alright but frustrating to get the proper rythym out of. overall it's a great entry level pro-synth, that i doubt i'll ever get rid of just for it's pads alone.

In My opinion The XP-10 is a great tool and here is why. 1-The XP-10 was designed as basic entry level synth. And it does that it gives you the basic tools to create songs, You can even edit the presets and drumsets, 2-For the Money Its worth it If you are a new to Midi and synths start with XP-10 and learn from it then move up to a XP-60 or 80 or Even a Triton or Trinity. But when get these boards you a least have some experience with GM and You can keep the XP-10 AS A 2ND SYTH OR A CONTROLLER. 3-REAL MUSICIANS CAN CREATE MUSIC FROM ANYTHING,SO TAKE SOME MUSIC CLASSES I BET YOU BIG TIME PRODUCERS LIKE BABYFACE AND RODNEY JERKINS AND TIMBALAND CAN CREATE ON THIS BOARD I BET YOU
FINALLY ITS LIKE HAVING BUICK PARK AVENUE TO START OFF YOU GET BASICS THEN YOU CAN MOVE UP TO A LEXUS WHEN YOU GET YOUR FIRST PLATINUM CD

I've bought the XP-10 a few years ago because it was (not very, but affordable) cheap and i didn't know anything about synthesizers. The sounds are average; in the beginning i thought they were very good because they were better than those in the E-15 which i already owned. It's a horror to use the XP-10 live on gigs espescially if it's a little bit dark, because the labelling on the backside is black-on-black and the (small) display isn't lit. Furthermore, the keys are very "noisy" when played silent and the On/Off-switch doesn't work anymore. I'd also like to have more than 28 voices and real synthesizer-functions on it (you can only modify the preset-sounds in a few parameters).

Its good as a HOME BEGINNER synth. It sounds sucky because lack of good effects. As sucky as mid-range synths. only 24 or 28 polyphony? Design is good, but ugly material. kinda sexy by the way. For me, I use it as a 2nd keyboard. If ya want a cheap, sexy 2nd keyboard with OK sounds this could be it. Hmmmm but, why not Korg X5D? Even better, with lots of effects and GREAT strings. Not a good choice now.... unless u can get is REALLY cheap. I own RD600, N5, 01W

I bought the XP-10 Brand new and with a manual, However the manual to me is a bit complicated. I have lost patience in trying to break it down. I like the sounds but I will try the GS as suggested in another e-mail. I love the fact that its light to carry. It makes a good rehearsal travel board. I wish you could assign the hold pedal to diffrent channels. If anyone knows how , please write me. Overall I like the X-P10, but I will be trading it soon to something more user friendly.
