I'm not sure what some people's prob is with this unit. I LOVE IT! It has very nice FX and awesome sounds. The onboard drum selection could have been better but hey, I am also a drummer so... Strings are very lush and the distortion guitars will have you trying to hammer out your fave metal grooves. I also like the timpani, because it sounds more like an actual timpani that the one on the Sound Canvas series, which sounded like the timpani was hit with a stick or had too much high EQ. If I lost it/had it stolen/lost it in a fire I would be very depressed, as my other boards have been collecting dust since I got it. I really haven't scratched the surface of the sequencer and that so I couldn't give an opinion there. Once you get the hang of it, creating sounds is pretty easy and the display helps out alot too, especially for its size. Roland did a good job implementing the display layout.

Hey,

i had a xp50 for a couple of weeks in my hands, man it SUCKED bigtime ... it's not even worth the name of synthesizer ! it's actually just an upgraded general midi keyboard. If you're lazy & you don't wanna twiddle and tweak your sounds, then it's for you. Yeps, that's right just dull preset sounds all over the place. Cannot believe that's the brand of one of the most amazing synthesizers around : the system 100 :s

Though it's an older board the XP50 remains a personal favorite of mine. I sold my original board back in 2003 and missed it so much that I re-purchased one in 2005. For the cost of this board and a few expansions you can have yourself a buttload of quality sounds for under $1000...can't beat that!

I USE A KURZWEIL 2600XS, VERY EXPENSIVE HERE IN MEXICO LIKE 5,000 DLLS. IS IT WORTH? WELL YEA IF U GET THE POTENTIAL OF IT, THE OTHER SYNTH I USE IS A ROLAND XP-50, IS IT WORTH? OF COURSE IT IS. OF COURSE I USE IT FOR DIFFERENT SOUNDS THAN KURZWEIL, BUT BOTH SOUNDS PREFFESIONAL FOR ME. OF COURSE KURWEIL IS MY MAIN OPTION LIVE, BUT STILL USE ROLAND XP-50 WITH MY 2 EXPANSION BOARDS THE SESSION BOARD AND THE 60'S AND 70'S BOARD, AND I LOVE IT.
