the sounds are a step up from the JV boards and equal to korg's triton, finally! sorting through the 1,000 patches can be tough without a numerical keypad, but sounds can be grouped together, even those on expansion boards. the effects are the best and really the most noticable feature - with nice 3d effects on some new patches. the new 128-voice piano is top notch and can even get better (supposedly) with an expansion board. no internal sequencer means this is best suited for a sound guru with computer. just using it live doesn't get into its complete worth. all in all, roland has a good piece here. anyone familiar with roland gear should be able to figure out its architecture and program it. I used it for a wedding performance and wowed the crowd with realistic guitar and strings.
