the interface is the Hell but for me no problem. Drums sound very good and you can use them as waves and ringmodulate them in a program. there is one weak point that i don't like: The 4 DCO'S don't start at the same Phase.they are diferently phase-shifted and because of that you kann hear strange Phase-Distortion in bass-range if you use 2 or more DCO's with the same octave and Output.Roland did never solve this bug.Only D50 has not this Problem but all the others of the D-family like D5, D10, D20, D110.

Nothing special here. I owned the D-10 at one point and sold it, but there were a couple of sounds that I really wanted to have, so I bought the D-110. The manual was and still is useless to me. I'm not a programmer at all, but I can find what I need with the basic. I took this thing and combined it with a Korg X5DR, Roland U110, all driven by a Roland XP10. Wow, it's the bomb now. I guess it needed the extra push. If I'm on the move and need something fast, I'm grab my Korg Triton Le. For sit down and just relaxing, Roland D110 powered by the above boards mentioned and it's wonderful. Shoot man, I've even tried it with my casio 1200. Sell it, no and trust me, the D110 doesn't die easy. I'll rate it a 4.0 at best because it's OLD and only because of that

FSOL used it extensively on their groundbreaking "Lifeforms"-album. It is a special LAS synth, that can make everything from teletubbies sounds to great basses, and lots of strange sounds unfound elsewhere. 4 DCO's that are best used for the waveforms that can be filtered, a nice delay effect & a great ringmodulator are the key features to mention. IMO far more exciting than the D-50, but it takes some time to program and get the best out of it. For lovers of synth-type sounds; this one has its own little place in sound heaven just like the Kawai K4r/K4. Both are highly recommended and fairly cheap. Get the PG-10 controller or Emagic soundiver for programming. Using the front panel only, can be a very frustrating experience.

This is one of three units (D10, D20, and D110) that had an inherent chip defect, please see my review of the D10 for further info.
