PXP MUSIC from United Kingdom writes:
We had one of these for years. It was used extensively on our Calcium Waves CD for all sorts of sounds - which after some effecting can sound very good, they are a bit weedy on their own. I quite like the Piano sound, which I felt sounded better than th one on our DX100 and if you listen to our stuff you can spot some of the sounds easily - needless to say, in the great PXP tradition, we sold it for about the same as we paid for it some five years previously. We may replace it with the D110 module, if we find one...

Roland D20 is the best Keyboard for learning Hindustani (North Indian) music. One can incorporate an Accompaniment Section, make one's own tala/rhythms using its drum machine, use its sequencer to create groovey ensembles for Hindi Songs, and also play the main "dhun" or tune live when playing the sequenced ensemble. This syint was my first keyboard expirience. I don't have to talk about the sounds, or sequencing this baby. It's old (antique) keyboard and it was great at the time, I only like the analog sounds I've programed. Noone can say this is not a good keyboard. Look at it at the time when was relased. Raiting for the 2001 is 0/5, but D20 in the 1985 goes to 5/5

I luv Roland and just about all there products. The D-20 was my first keyboard and I would have to say, compared to the yamaha dx7, it's competing manufacturer at the time, it was a great alternative. I would have to agree with some of the other comments made, unless you're comfortable with programming, the keyboard poses some beginner challenges that can be frustrating at first. I feel it is a good starting point for the price.
