I am the proud owner of a mint condition D50. The absolute truth is this..in comparison to today's keys the D50 will get boring really really fast. There isn't one half decent piano, guitar, electric piano, etc but what there is is this....super massive analog sounds and nice organs, flutes, and Roland's own unique spin on horns that reminds us why it was hot back then and still is now.

One of the greatest synthesizers of al time,incredible sound engine,sounding soft warm and fat in a bit lofi way,but extremely versetile,iv got even 2 of them,"musicians"who do not like this masterpiece of electronic music have a serious problem,not the d-50,it even go today really strong,one of Roland best synthesizers they ever made!

Well, the first reviews of this synth [here] were in August of 1998, so the fact that they're still coming, and glowing, should tell folks something about the longevity and desirability of this beautiful synth.
I bought one off ebay a couple of weeks ago, and after working with it for a while, I've come to realize it's a truly unique, incredible machine. I use the Motif ES, Prophet '08, JV-1080, and JX-10, and this module (I bought the D-550) is simply stunning. Liquidy-fluid yet tight and punchy.
Notice the people on here that dis the machine are bitching about how it doesn't sound like a piano or give a good representation of a B-3. Poor, misguided souls pitifully don't understand what the instrument is for, and will do the planet good to relinquish their's for people who understand what synthesis is all about.
Killer, outstanding, smoking sound-machine. I want to be buried with it.
