@fred (a few reviews down), what are you on buddy? Aside from the fact that no virtual synth or PC-based sampler can match a real hands-on keyboard for immediacy and response, have you ever really USED a D-50?

As many of the other reviewers have stated; the D-50 is a VERY special machine that can produce the most amazing pads and FX. It's analog capabilities are also fantastic (and beat the JX-10 by the way!).

A true classic - forget what Fred says and read the rest of the reviews of this amazing synth.

I bought this board quite by accident in 2007. Had seen it on Craigslist and thought I was rushing out to look at a Roland XP-50. What I paid for this board was too low to share plus I got the manuals and an extra sound card. This was my first synth. I play in a country /rock band. I stack it over a Yamaha S80 and run it through a Boss RT-20 rotary sim pedal. I play string parts on it and Jamaica steel drum as well as organ patches with the reverb removed. The action is great and there are no problems yet other than a few of the patch select buttons require firm pressure to activate. The board has stereo outs and expression pedal input which I run with a Roland expression pedal however be careful not to accidently plug the expression pedal into the wrong plug as it will damage. I plan on connecting this board midi to a Korg EX8000 for more sonic options. For my purposes a controller may be better but I want to explore sound development with the D-50 before I ever decide to part with it.

This is one of the GREATEST synthesizers of al time, the TRU vintage classic of tomorrow,in my opinion its already NOW a classic vintage synthesizer:comparing is easy with others:i do not like that, only thing i can say is this one(D50)is in my personal opinion in the top 10 of the greatest synthesizers of al time!! People who say D50 sounds lame, boring and crap i do not even take serious, mostly they have there ears ful of yellow s***,so they do not hear the full sonic power of this incredible synthesizer! Poeple who have creative minds know lot better, this is a mighty tool to make sounds and above al to make MUSIC,REAL MUSIC! TY ROLAND!!!

THE best synth every produced - period! The range of sounds, from FAT analog, to sparkling digital, that the D-50 can produce remain unsurpassed.

It has greater depth and sonic possibilities (even to this day) than anything before or since.

Get your hands on the "Star Trek Voices" patch, play a fat chord and tell me if that isn't the thickets, most mind-blowing sound ever to come out of an instrument that doesn't have a "Fairlight" badge on it! :-)
