Obviously a great instrument. The 5 always gives you a thick and distinctive sound. Very classy! It looks the business too. The polymod section is fantastic and gives it that Prophet sound. This synth has been used everywhere and dominated much of 1980s contemporary music, whatever the style. I sold mine and bought a Prophet VS. It can do the same job as the 5 having the same filter and waveforms. It can create much more varied sounds, owing to its synthesist method. The 5's capabilities have been extended by the VS. It is also more reliable, though not so much fun to program. The 5 is THE classic analogue polysynth. It will go down in history as an important music instrument.

The perfect pad/bass/string machine out there.
Very pure and very warm. Worth all the hype. I purchased P5 3.2 purchased in 1986...................It's memory still rings in my ears!

Obviously a great synth by any standards. The warm brass, sweeps and strings are just about the best I've heard. It has a very distinctive sound which is evident throughout 80s music. Great fun to program, even for unexperienced users. Magic sounds can be created in 10 seconds. Looks classic. Obviously a pain in the arse to own...not as bad as a memorymoog, but nevertheless, pretty bad. Power supply problems can be annoying. Only buy one if you can afford to run one and know a reliable and competent repair man. You will need him. With the Rhodes Chroma, the Korg Ps and the Prophet VS(amazing) my favorite synth. Very loveable!

The prophet5 still one of the coolest looking synths ever conceived and very playable, the sounds are consistently good, but not over whelming they sit nicely and balance easily in a mix, there are a few misconceptions how ever, the filters on the p5 are not as good as the T8 as on my 3.2 increasing reso. weakens the sound where as T8 will stay full and true, also modulation wise the T8 is far superior, and is honestly a much classier synth sounding equally as good an being much more flexable and responsive, but the p5 is a lot easier to carry and still sounds great,
