I've owned a rev 3.0 prophet-5 for about 8 years now...and loved every second of it! Nothing comes close to the punch or warmth of this synth..including the t-8. The T-8 is solidly built, and has nice features, but it's basic raw sound lacks in comparison to the p-5. The p-5 is more sharp sounding and agressive due to the lightnight quick envelopes which the t-8 lacks.

I have played extensively on every major Sequential synth, and the only reason anyone ever says a T8 doesn't compare to a P5 is due to vintage mystique and gear lust; the P5 has a bigger name and is a "cool" synth. I wonder how many of the people that claim a P5 sounds better than a T8 have even heard both synths in person.

Steve a hobbyist user from USA writes:
I bought one back in 1992 for $1000 with an anvil case from some redneck who used it to play "Jump" and country covers.

I guess that I was expecting a Prophet 5, but it wasn't. I did not think that the oscillators were that powerful. I also didn't care for the key action, but I prefer a Roland keyboard. I broke three springs, a voice went out and that cost me $200, so I sold the thing for $1500 about two years later. This thing is a beast. For what it weighed, it should have sounded better than an OBXa, but it didn't. I was also a pain to program. I prefer sliders like my Jupiter 6 had. It seemed like it took 15 minutes to get together a decent patch.

On a positive note, it did keep in tune rather well.

All in all, I never wish that I had it again. I have a SuperJX that I just got a month ago that has 76 keys and I absolutely love it. It was only $240.

T-8 definitely has the Sequential sound, but lacks the warmth and musicality of the great P-5 and VS. Thus, you're left with a superb keyboard and sublime expressivity, but only a solid to good analog voice. I have owned all of the major Sequential synths.

Probably the best analogue synth of all time. Not as strong as the Prophet 5 for punch, but it comes with a great set of keys and other features. As well as 8 notes instead of just 5 or 6. It is better sounding and better to play than a CS80. It's that good.
