I just recently sold out half of my home studio. There went a whole bunch of synthesizers, both analogue and digital. One thing I can really tell about this synth is that its the only synth I really miss. I am going to buy one back as soon as possible. IMO It sounds very unique, it cant do anything what some might call "complex" but what it does it does very well. This is a synthesizer for anyone who loves deep bass-sounds or crazy acid basslines. I am waiting for some synth manufacturer to make a analog 101 VFC clone, just becouse SH-101 is so classic machine for me. There is something really crazy about this synth, that bass, it can kill all your neightbours. VCF section is so unbelivible, that resonance is so crazy, much better than on most other analog and digital synthesizers. SH-101 is something that cannot be never replaced by any other synthesizers. I've been laughing to couple synths from roland and waldorf, just for having preset sounds called TB-XXX or SH-XXX. SH-101 is definetly a machine that can bring great hardness to any style of music. After I bought my SH-101, I actually used it on every single track I made after that. This is a synth for anyone whos into electronic music, if you make POP or some other stuff like that, it will be sure that you will be dissapointed. I miss this baby, if you got one, dont sell it... you gonna regret it, that's sure. And what comes to the current SH-101 pricing, I think this isnt overrated or overpriced. Thats becouse when you buy one, it will never stop to inspire you to make new tracks. If you are into Goa, Acid, Hardcore, Techno, D'n'B or Indusrial... BUY ONE as soon as possible! ITS A CLASSIC!!!

I'm writing this message on 101 induced sleep depravation so you will have to pardon my current state.

I fought the urge for quite some time. I'd played with one while engineering for a local electronica artist in Orlando, and fell in love. However, I kept saying thinking why should I sink $400 bones into a monosynth when I can buy an polyphonic multitimbral analog modeler for just a little more.

To make a long story longer, over the course of a few years I invested in several AM's and vintage analog poly's trying to get the best use of my money. However, I could never get the raw nastiness I found with the 101.

So I bought one. OH MY F*CKING GOD!!!! I haven't slept in days. I'm considering calling in sick to work for the next week. All I want to do is program nasty bass sounds / sequences, tap in a delay on my MO-FX, and tweak the shit out of my little grey friend.

It has brought balance to the force. It compliments my JX-8p and Polysix so beautifully. It has essentially filled the hole in my sound and life as we know it will never be the same.

As of this writing, there aren't any tracks on my site that use the 101. However, if my previous rambling gives you any idea how I feel about my 101, you can just about bet that they're soon to come. Check out my site at:

Very light and accurate field weapon of choice for many professionals. Noise generator particualy good for interrogation purposes. Very well made synth, had mine since 91 when I paid 70($100)for it and sliders and knobs still possess that slick, chunky feel. Current going rate in `UK'around 275-300, lots for sale so pick and choose carefully. Unique sound - way harder than minimoog but softer than ARP Odyssey Mk1. Brilliant synth to learn on (as I did)but so much more! Capable of truly spectacular analogue percussion sounds (set to noise generator, frequency high, resonance low and fiddle with ADSR),I never get tired of this. SH09 is allegedly the same with one less filter envelope control, external input and metal case, but personally I think this is a totally different synth.

Since i like to modify my analogue synth's i have heard sound's from my sh101 that isn't real :) here's a tip route the signal from R137 to tha cap C30'rigt leg.this will bring some sort of ringmodulation and with the rigt tweeks it sound's like 2-2934729 oscillators hehe but be carefull so you don't make the same mistake lika i did (burned the whole D/A section) but i have fixed that now..
