Paul Moore a hobbyist user from usa writes:
Excellant device. If you want an orchestral device then go buy one. This device is for the wierd and esoteric types of sounds.

In 1986 I design a D/A board for an Apple][ with software. The SH-101 responded to the sequencing without missing a beat @ 500KHZ.

I have put the Apple][ to sleep but the Roland still cranks on.

Mine is still factory new. I like to let my 11 year old daughter and her friends play it. I still hear new sounds from it after 11 years.

It never ceases to amaze me the flexibility that was built in.

My SH has no mods but I would like to start converting it or adding to it if I can find a mods page or similar

Thanks, Paul.

Ok its made of grey plastic and yes It can run on batteries - BUT this little synth kicks...its only a single VCO but the sub Osc soon beefs that up....It is capable of a really nice range of very playable sounds , much more than you would expect looking at the panel. Primitive step time sequencer but easily midi'd via a CV converter. Very stable , and mostly reliable - though the mod/bend levels can be a bit dodgy after a while and Roland dont go no more in stock. 8-(

sub bass (Good for reso kiks as well !), can sometimes sounds like a TB.

Mine is grey and had never failed !

elektrahn a hobbyist user from Usa writes:
The 101 is your typical monophonic (Roland) analog synth, with a primitive digital sequencer, arpeggiator, and some other nice features, it's got really nice bass sounds, and a decent 18db (I think) filter which adds to that Roland aspect of the sound. I had a grey one for a while, and was very happy with it, I suggest it to all those mc-202 and SH series lovers out there (maybe even the 303 freaks!).
