This synth is great and can produce a great range of sounds if you can tweak it in the right way. The sounds can be very aggressive and percussive ( what most people try to get out of it ) and is thus perfect for techno freaks, but the sh101 can also produce some very interesting saw and pulse leads. Cool mini moog like square leads seem to be impossible to produce. It can be great for getting bass drums sounds, but I think that the SH2 can do it better. This synth is a real beast for producing all kind of noises. The sequencer is a great extra and can lead to very interesting ideas. The synth in general is very inspiring. I got mine for 85$ (I know that I'm lucky) so you should think twice before spending more than 300$ for it. P.S. Mine is green...

Cautionary tale: I bought mine in Dallas in 1984 when they were being closed out for $200.00-NEW. It was the biggest bass-monster I ever owned, especially when I ran it through the chorus and EQ on my SCI Predlude. Then, my room-mate moved out and I was late on rent, and my landlord took my little grey SH-101. Always pay your rent on time...

I like the SH-101 cus it´s the onley (real) analogue synth i have, i like to moddyfi things so... Running my moddyfied 101 with a moddyfied 606 produces very strange and groovey sounds. And the attack power is great to make bassdrums and spychodelic basslines with short gate sounds ,

The SH-101 is very much an acid synth, sound wise. I can't get to grips with the slide controls and it's geometric grey nature makes it look very uninspiring. But it has some great sounds that rip your testicles apart (if you let them).
