What happens when the sq2's internal battery goes? Do the factory presets remain? Or does it just lose the ability to store user-made sounds?

I own and love my SQ-1! I have many songs sequenced from the '80's and '90's. Would anyone like to trade SQ-1 sequences? Hit me back at copycats@alaska.com if so. To answer the original question here - go to the midi setup and ensure that the rcv midi sysx and song name options are enabled. Then your SQ-1 will receive the load from your external device =)

This was a really capable and reasonably priced synth when it was released. These days one can be had for $200 - $300. The 16 bit 1 Mb piano waveforms are a bit dated compared to today's mega-pianos, but for the money this makes a great first professional synthesizer. A deceptively simple user interface unlocks a plethora of programming options... Highly recommended, especially in today's dollars!

I just purchased used Ensoniq SQ1. It seems to be very good synth to my needs. I use it to practise at home when my main synth (Korg Trinity) is at band raining place.
Can I download user manual for SQ1 some where? Can I download different patches?
