This is an amazing synth!! Really has presence in a mix which not many synth nowadays can do (and i've owned many of them) One of the truly great analogue synths of our time, (apart form moog) but then this is a moog and morebesides. Bob Moog was present when these were made to make sure it turned out the way he wanted. If you've ever used one you'll know why they are so sought after. I say get one now before they become rare like the forefathers before them!!

I owned an SE-1 for a while and sold it to pay for other gear, but now i miss it and would like to get another one. There is something very unique about the SE-1 that is hard to explain. Maybe its just pure quality through and through. They are very had to find and are not cheap, but really worthwhile in my opinion.

The SE-1 sounds are warm & analog in character but it's digital envelopes definitely lack the "punch" of a real analog synthesizer. I'd agree that one OSCILLATOR on my Mini sounds much fatter than all 3 VCO's on my SE-1. The two VCO's on the Pro-One easily kick it's ass. Even a Virus A can deliver better "punchy" basslines than the SE-1. Hopefully the envelopes are fixed on the SE-1x update. The Control Panel knob "zipper" issue is pretty bad. You can get around this by using one of 2 assignable MIDI CC's (only 2?). If you have a controller with high resolution wheels/faders this works fine. All things said, It's a fun synth to mess around with. You can do some cool leads w/ the SYNC & LFO features. It's not an effective bass synthesizer if you're looking for punchy bass.

Just used one for the first time and I gotta say it is pretty ballsy. The envelopes could be faster but that's not to say that they're super slow either. Pro's: Great sounds with not a lot of tweaking, pretty fat and punchy IMO. FM sounds geat on it. Con's: Zipping when you tweak the knobs, only two filter types so it could be more flexible.
I don't know if fatter is really what you need, this seems to be plenty chunky without taking over the mix. I really like the sound character of this synth.

well,guys i just got my hands on a minimoog..so i pretty much wanted to tell you my results with comparing the minimoog to the se-1.. i know there are alot of people deciding which one to get..should you get a minimoog or an se-1???... well,heres some info that may help you..first of all,1-both are serious bass machines..but i really feel that the mini is much,much more punchy and gets a lil bit more deeper bass sounds. 2-the se-1 is much,much more stable and has midi..my mini has the old style boards and drifts out of tune alot!..but gives it that "fat analog sound".. 3-the mini has much better glide and a much better "worm" sound.. 4-both are easy to program,the se-1 a lil more difficult due to hidden parameters,but the se-1 can store patches!..even though i get crashes with sounddiver 3.0 and lost many patches??? 5-a new se-1 cost slightly less than a fair used mini..a mint mini is usually close to twice the amount of an se-1..but a used se-1 is usually less than a fair used mini... 6- an se-1 is not considered vintage yet..so repairs and parts are easier to obtain.. 7- im keeping both units, because the mini and the se-1 dont sound exactly the same.. hope that helps a lil..but if i was in a situation where i needed to sell one..i would sell the se-1..but honestly ,in the mix its hard to tell if the bass is a mini or an se-1..its really up to your ears to decide..
