I really like my SE-1. Actually, I like Studio Electronics quite a bit.

On the dark side of the sun, I don't like the damn zipping on the knobs of the SE-1, but they say they'll correct that later this year with an OS update.

Anytime now...

Mike

Just got one yesterday. Spent 8 hours twidling knobs. Thinking of selling my micro moog... Not just GREAT bass sounds, but also screaming leads. Buy it and revel in its sonic excellence.

Sean Ryder a professional user from NY, NY writes:
The SE-1 is a great analog synth. It's maybe not quite as punchy as a Minimoog but it does so much more. A lot of the bass sounds I get out of it actually sound more like my Prophet-5 in unison mode than my Mini. All in all, this thing oozes analog power and is so flexible that I prefer it over my Minimoog.

If you find a used one lying around, don't hesitate.

Mist a hobbyist user writes:
The envelopes are not as quick as the Minimoog's, therefore you lack the bass power of the Minimoog. Also, it doesn't sound just like the Minimoog, it is not as rich and fat. Has a 12db filter as well, which allows you to get a wide range of tones. Steps through a filter sweep, which proves that by digitally controlling parameter values, some sacrifices in sound do occur. Still, it is a true analog. You get Midi and patch memory, that's nice but not essential. Overall, the price is steep, but it does sound good. Don't think of it as a Minimoog clone, it is not.
