OK so I finally got to own my very own Synthex. Its a version 3 so comes with MIDI yipee!! The sound is amazing..... Pads are fantastic and the basses really stand out compared to alot of synths as well.

If you can find one of these I would say buy it at any price over any other analouge Poly synth other than may be a Matrix 12 but it would be a close call.

As for price I would have to say 2000 or $3000 is a fair price for something that not every keyboard man has in their arsenal, wouldnt you????

i just bought an elka synthex for 1000 EU. It looks great and it sounds amazzzzzzzing. the strings and the pads are so warm, i haven't heard anything that even comes close to it. I am trully amazed. If you can find one BUY IT. In Italy if you are lucky you can still get them in a good price around 1000$ that is. THE SYNTHEX IS VERY SOLID, I MEAN 35 KILOS SOLID.

Fantastic synth!!

I bought one broken for 250$ and fixed it myself! Best poly I ever owned.

It is by far, the most lush sounding DCO poly(due in part to the rich and wonderfull built-in chorus).

pv a part-time user from vienna writes:
The Synthex is the most inspiring and versatile keyboard synthesizer that was built in the 80ies. It has a wonderful panel with one knob/slider for each function and an amazingly solid keyboard that feels much better than the Prophets or Oberheims. And the sound of its oscillators are just amazing. Four different filters, 8 voices, great LFO implementation, sync, glide/portamento, a wonderful chorus (far better than the noisy, ugly CS80 chorus). Unfortunately, no velocity sensitivity or aftertouch and very scarce interface possibilities (no cv/gate). A beautiful instrument!!
