I have wery well known powerful analog synths of the time and none have quite the features under the same board as the Synthex. Sorry to say that while I have no real prejudice against any synth manufacturer from any nationality, origin, or past reputation, I don't particularly care for many Italian manufactured keyboards or synths, even the Bob Moog designed Crumar Spirit. But I must have to say the Synthex is indeed an exception from any synth, not just of Italian make, but for any synth of any time period. It's nothing short of amazing that this synth, had it had been released at the right time and represented by a more prestigious name, it could of sold well more than what it did. It was kind of a shame, because I have heard its wonderful sound, not just from the sources given by other publications, but by just listening to one song from Stevie Wonder that was considered to be his downfall ("Part Time Lover from the album "In Square Circle". Yes, that song is barfed on today, even by many of his longtime loyal fans, but I can't help when I noticed that subtle pad that was played in that song. When I bought mine, I had purchased a model that was in pristine condition, with the MIDI interface. Even if its MIDI interface is somewhat limited, this Synthex hasn't exhibited any problems other Synthex synths may have. I only give it a 4, because it does lack some unique sonic character to its sound. Maybe that's due to its use of Curtis chips, but at least it has stood the test of time.

The Elka Synthex is a true heavyweight champion. When other manufacturers

thought more about economy and large selling numbers than interesting features,

Italian Mario Maggi designed the Synthex, which doesn't let you down in any

respect. Everything about the Synthex is designed without compromise. For some nice pictures along with other info, please visit my Synthex site at:
