Excluding all the analogue-and-rarity hype I'd have to say that alongside the Prophet VS and the Jupiter 6, this is the best polysynth ever. The Matrix 12 and Andromeda are contenders, but IMO, the Matrix12s envelopes are just a little to slow, (a thing that is limiting whether you Matrix lovers like it or not), and, while the Andromeda is the last giant, it just leaves something to be desired sonically. It's just not quite as warm as the oldies. The Memorymoog and CS80 are too unreliable (unstable osc, etc) and, the Jupiter 8 while it does have 8 voices, it also has unstable osc, and the filter just isn't as good (versatile) as that of the 6. Yes, the Synthex is in the top three, but it's rare, and, heavy. And if something goes wrong in there, you're likely to have a hard time fixing it.

Wow! I just received my 220 V MIDI Synthex (plus a 110-220 converter). Is this one of the easiest synths to cox cool tones from or what? From chimey to weird - from icy to fiery - you name it. This baby produces some of the most fascinating pads, and its leads and basses are nothing to sneer at either.
No, it aint a minimoog, but then, that is why I bought a minimoog. The mini (or some of the other equipment listed below) can't do the Synthex thang either.
I have begun to test it against some of my other analog gear (OB Xpander, A6, Prophet 5 Rev 3.3, Super Jupiter MKS 80 with programmer, Minimoog Voyager,ARP 2600 ...) plus a couple of analogue modeling synths (Nord Modular, Novation Supernova II, others and soft synths)and so far, I think it is fair to say that the Synthex has its own voice, and a darned good one at that.
While modulation capabilities are admirable, they fall short of some of the other synths, but you wouldn't know it by a lack of useful sonic resources. Plus, this beast is much easier to program, since every knob is up front, not to mention cool filter possibilities.
This sucka is HEAVY and has a very sturdy feel.
If you are into collecting or are looking for an easy-to-use tool that has incredible sound design capabilities, the Synthex would seem to be a must have unit.

Not as powerful as the JX10, though still nice sounding. The editing is fun and the synth feels quality. It is warmish and has a good filter. The JX has more features and that fab keyboard action. Two great synths .

The first message from Peter Wilcek raised my Elka-interest in to higher levels ! The Elka Synth -X (as I call it) is the Most Powerful analogue synthesizer (with DCOs) ever built by any-one ! Mario Maggi has truely crossed the line when he designed this wicked, sleek instrument...(oh, where was I again...) ;) Yes, I would be more than curious to have see the Mr. Wilcek�s prototype-Elka (serial #1) which must be very unique instrument, if I�d understood the message correctly, so if you Mr. Wilcek would be kind and send a photo of it in this discussion field (if it boasts photos) or direc- tly in my e-mail address I would be more than thankful to you =)! And as a huge fan of Jean- Michel Jarre an Elka SynthX would be really nice add-on my "JMJ-kit list" which already boasts the legendary Eminent 310 Unique organ (+EH-Small stone), the Jupiter-8 and Korg 01/WFd ...
One of my Norwegian friend has recently bought an SynthX and he�s Really happy with it =) ! Also I�d be..it�s a truely JMJ-collector item =) Kind regards :
