Good and cheap FM expander, difficult to programm, with some excellent sound and powerful synthesis. The waves in it are more than sinusod, so the sounds can be more complex and surprizing than with an DX 7.

Expect good surprizes with some of its well-known sounds: try particularily the LATELY BASS, electro-piano, bright leads... You will need some studio-effects to give more power to the TX 81Z - there is no in-board effects in it.

Just got the TX yesterday, and it took me only some minutes to understand how it works, without looking into the manual. Of course, I am a quite experienced synth user, so maybe not everybody may find it as intuitive. I bought it for FM basses and for this purpose, it is a great piece of gear. Very punchy. Certainly it does not sound analog at all but very digital... you have to like those FM bass sound. Has some nice choir and lead sounds, too. I give it a four out of five, because for what I bought it, it serves very well. Dont get this as an allrounder.

Justin Havu a professional user from USA writes:
I use my TX for pad sounds and sound effects. On occasion, I will pair it with my FB01 for a chorused electric piano sound. (set FB01 to E.PIANO and TX81Z to electropiano and detune the TX81z to -06. sounds nice.)
