These are great. Cheap as hell, the best house/trance basses ever. Lately bass is of course real tasty, but there are so many more too. The darker basses remind me of the basses used by Ferry Corsten, with lots of reverb of course. If you're into hard house, this is ideal for creating hard bangs and hits.

that would be "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins. 4op FM synths suck. the 6op version are the one to have. I had a TX81Z, and it just didn't give me what I get out of a DX7. they suck, that's why their so "cheap."

Before I say anything about the synth, patch C09 was the bass used in that Top Gun theme song. I love 80s factory patches!
Annyway, this is a fairly bad ass synth. Cheap as hell and can sound big. Who needs analog when yah got digital yah know. For Chicago House this box is ill. With fx some great Deep House patches can be made. Got an editor for the guy and cant stop making patches. I might have to buy a second one so I have access to all of the patches at a live show. Big Bass sounds. Weird nonsense as well. And if you liked the 80s then you have to have this. The factories or so damn hilarious. If anyone has an extra manual for it lemme know. Thanks. -Joe

This is my first FM synth. I've had it a day and didn't have any manual, and I've pretty much figured out what all the parameters do and how to operate it, so don't be worried. It can make smooth bass as well as punchy stuff. The bass sounds it makes are really nice, but I wouldn't trust it without a delay or reverb or something. It can also produce really trippy algorithms and spacy noises. Either the presets are really cool, or the guy who had it before me was good at makin patches, because the patches on mine sound massive. another comment, at a first impression (a fiew hours with it) it seems that if your into jungle/d&b or industrial, this would be a good one. But for trance I don't think it would be that useful. I haven't figured out how to save patches, so if anyone has a manual, email me. good luck!

It's noisy.
It's gritty.
The interface leaves much to be desired.
But I love it. And you can generally get 'em dirt cheap now.
It's really not as hard to program as everyone says. Okay, so it's kidna twiddly with the two-line screen, and you don't intuitively know what's going to happen to your sound like you do when you modulate a filter cutoff or whatever, but with a little practice, you can get some monstrous noises out of this little beastie.
It does basses really well, as everyone says. It's also wonderful for really raspy electronic noises, which can have a lot of aggressive bite. And of course it does metallic instruments like a charm. If you've got the doucmentation, it's not too hard to figure out. Sure, FM as a concept may take a bit to wrap your brain around, but the easiest thing to do is just start poking around and seeing what sounds come out the other side.
