If it had an analog res filter and a ribbon controller it would have been the best synthesizer in the world.Maybe forever. In headphones WS sounds gorgeous but in speakers it sounds to cold and digital. The effects are still very high class.Maybe some better samples also would enhance it greatly. The vektor control is its best feature to fade and mix in and out sounds.

A synth in its own class. If you like early 1990's digital stuff, industrial, or even the Terminator 2 theme song, then you'll love the Wavestation. It's terrible for acoustic or "real" sounds (not sure about the EX, however), but it kicks ass for digital junk. Like the Roland D-50, but gone off the digital deep end....

Go hold of an Wavestation on eBay for 350,-€ in absolute mint condition. The ROM presets don't do it justice and after spending some long nights with this have to conclude it has a very unique and musical quality. The OS is designed very good and jumping around the different menus quickly becomes second nature. As for the filter. I have it outputting into my Dave Smith Evolver which has a real analogue filter. Add a synced sequence modulating the filter and things get WICKED realy fast. Great machine - great sounds. I'm happy somebody wanted to part with it so i could get my hands on it. Next best thing would be the Legacy Collection but somehow softsynths, good as they have become nowadays, are no substitute for the real thing. Full marks for Korg.

Don...yep.it's old..as is the wavestation now. What goes around comes around. The wavestation's sounds have dated and resonant filters are back. The wavestation never sounded warm and that matters nowadays. Its filter was a compremise that let it down badly and which would always put it up against the VS, which honestly blows it away in its variety of sounds. The wavestation sounds like a rompler on steroids. Choirs going 'ahhhh' have had their day. People want to get back into sound creation and this synth will restict you in this respect. Saying that, I love vector synths and will give it full marks.
