I love this sampler, even if the sound could sometime be warmer. the effects are great and no with OS V2 you get even more for your money. Go for it !

4-things to say for anyone interested in buying a Yamaha A3000. 1) yes, the filters & fx are excellent, and resampling sounds through fx is one of a3000's strong points. great generally for synth sounds, vocals etc. 2) warning! i would NOT recommend this sampler as the basis for rythmn sounds in your setup. I have an a3000 and an akai s3000 and the difference in timing is huge. It seems that when the yamaha can't handle too many things playing at once, (limited polyphony particularly when using many filters and fx), it shifts the sounds earlier or later and this really sucks for rythmn (oi yamaha! sort it out!). The Akai S3000 although an older generation of samplers, still has almost perfect timing, because it simply ignores or prioritizes sounds if there are too many playing at once. 3) i use a jaz drive and it works just fine, but i could not recommend paying more to get any kind of faster drive. The limitation is not in the drive but in the yamaha. When connected to my sampler the Jaz is only about a fifth as fast as when used on a PC. If i connect the yamaha to an older MO disk, it's still about the same rate as the Jaz (i.e. it's the yamaha's throughput that's the determining factor. Something else for yamaha to sort out i think). 4) lastly and probably most importantly, I had the same SIMMS problem as many others have mentioned. I bought 32meg of perfectly respectable brand name SIMMS and it wasn't recognised. I phoned Yamaha Kemble and they said, (off the record!) they would recommend the company AMERICANINO. It turns out they actually supply yamaha kemble with memory for these machines. Anyway, I bought some from them and it works perfectly. I think it's a UK company (sorry US folk), but they DEFINITELY can supply the right stuff, and I think they probably do overseas too. p.s. if any yamaha people read this, another thing, while I'm whinging, the IMPORT SAMPLE function, you should be able to load several samples at once (in a kind of load *.* sense). It's fucking ridiculous to have to select them individually. Doh.

I also bought simms from COMP U.S.A
they worked fine
I made sure the were 32 bit parity
the simm manufacturer is PNY they are in new jersery
iI tried older simms and they didnt work
these simms did

It turn out that it doesnt except standard PC simms. You have to buy the SIMMS through yamaha, and they want 200 bucks for them. far cry from the 80 buck i anticipated. Anyway i called the camplaints deptartment to complain. I mean it's gonna cost $800 to get it up to 128mb. What i dupe. I wouldn't have bought it if i'd known that. Would have got an Akai instead. Anyway I'll keep you posted with an update on what happens. Buy the way the sampler is awsome. I just home that the company is too.

it seems i've been fed a big wad of bullshit all this time. I picked up some simms at CompUSA today that work fine. They are made by a company called MGV, 32 MB 72-pinn Non-Parity, 60ns. product code dt-g3208326, they also have a 800 number so you can find out where to get their stuff. 1-800-897-3200. good luck
