I've got several drum machines/groove machines but this one is the one i like most. Because it's very simple. Everything I need to create a groove to start with. The drums are not the best one I ever hear but in combination with the simple effect section you can create nice fx. The step sequencer is nice to use for example in combination with a computer sequencer. It let the beat groove. It is also a nice machine to use in a live setup. I linked the machine to my moog prodigy. A very nice combination. A little mixer in between a let move te crowd.

the an200 and dx200 have a really rich sound for mixes...a very nice setup can be had with the sync chain: sp808->rm1x->an200->dx200!

open the track window on an empty style on the rm1x and start dropping in track patterns...choose patterns on the 200s that work with the ones on the rm1x and you're there...you can move around in realtime between the patterns on the 200s within each pattern grouping pretty safely using your mixer faders and the 'go to top' button on the 200s...you can continuously change patterns on the rm1x...if you have a dj mixer and can preview, then you're good to go in live performance...

now an improvement on this setup might be to replace the rm1x with a emu px-7 with the beat garden, xl-1, and pure phatt sound cards...or maybe a sync'd laptop running ableton live...you'll probably also want external filters and effects...but that's pretty optional as all the gear mentioned have passable effects...

oh...if you play keyboards, then you can play through the 200s as well (forget the rm1x...the synth sounds can only be used way down in a mix)

J a hobbyist user from Germany writes:
Great box, if you see it as a step sequencer for playing live. Concerning the sonic capabilities, the drums are good, the synth sound is ok. But: When using the internal synth part, there is the serious problem that, after a pattern change, it misses the first note of the new pattern! This SUCKS! Otherwise I have nothing to complain. Makes fun!

This is a great synth! I have a dx100 and this piece blows it out of orbit. I have it connected to cubase and works great.
