i got this brand new back in 1997-ish for like $600. some people here complain about its synth engine being weak, and im a way, it is.. but there is plenty of control to make alot of great sounds for most any music style including most forms of techno, and industrial. it looks great, and sounds pretty damn good, but the construction quality isnt real good, its kinda cheep plasticy the caseing is all plastic and the knobs are a little loose feeling, but ive seem alot of gear alot junkyer than this, like the korg electribes are simply built like shit. novation products are awefull too... but for the $200-$275 usd second hand price ya really cant beat it.. o about the sounds, theres not too many "weird" blippy noises, and the bass aint the greatest, but this is an EXELENT lead synth. ill give it a 4 because its very affordable, and it looks good, and has a damn good synth engine for its price range.. but the construction quality aint the best.

What can i say.. some neat pads, sweeps.. etc. but only in pref. mode.. dont twist the reso or cutoff button to much.. you will regret:)
Actually i find the reverb nice. the 808 kit is good too... :)

Warning this synth sounds differant in multi timbral mode( as do many others. As soon as you go to multi ,mode it sounds flat. The sounds are ok and they seem useful at first but then it sounds just digital crap. You know that chirpy resonance ,the fakie sounding strings.Even my girlfriend said,"whats that keyboard it sound like a toy" I was like ,ya fuck this piece of shit.

Hi,
i bougt this one some time ago. A week after that, i got my yellow Waldorf Q KB. Now the cs1 is somewhere in the corner and i dont know what to do with it. Maby i'll use it, when the Q's 16 voices reach the limit. It has really good sounds, i like the basses and leads, but i dont like the control.
6 knobs are never enough for any kind of Synth ;) Also the Matrix is wired, like most Yamaha-Stuff (A3000): you first have to take a closer look, read well, think, and than you can do something. Not very intuitive. I wonder if Yamaha-Ingenieurs use their own Synths (lol).
But once the Sounds are edited, i guess its a good addition to other Euipement.
Enjoy,
9c-Vic
