This is one of the two mistakes i made in life. The first one was a roland mc-303. In my opinion the cs1x is like a mc303 with a keyboard. Don't buy this one if you like to create your own sounds. Unlike old analogs or VA's this thing is based on samples. Sure you can filter the samples and put some fx on it. But if you buy a sampler you can do the same and more. I dont understand why other people like it. If you are looking for anolog stuff dont buy this one. I am glad i sold mine.

This is a nice squelchy sounding synth with an in your face paint job. I like my CS1x,but I don't know if it would be suitable to produce entire tracks on it, as the sound would be too recognisable.I use in a mix with some Roland,Korg,Alesis and some older Yamaha stuff and then it really rocks. It's fun to use, it's got a great sound for the money, some of which would not be out of place in more expensive synths, and it's relatively easy to operate, I just don't like the menu selection buttons and 'rotary' switch. It shows that it has been made on a budget due to the cheap plastic housing and the keyboard. That keyboard is used on cheap keyboards of Yamaha's PSR series. It is good if your starting out, but I prefer a keyboard witch has a slightly longer travel and 'semi weigthed', adding more control and thus expresiveness when you play it. The arpegiator is fun, and so are the knobs. The GM part I almost never use, and it's a shame that you can't use several performances to make up a multi. It's one performance, with GM stuff on the backing tracks. That I don't like at all, but I didn't get it to use it this way. For me it was a nice cheap addition to my synth range with an individual sound. This is a fun machine! My marks: based on my usage I'd give it a 4, 1 point deducted for it's lousy keyboard, sorry.

I've had this since 97 and I still love it. The sounds are actually pretty good, I use them all the time and sound great in a mix. Editing performance sounds is a bit of a pain since everything's done through annoying menu's. The filters are pretty good too. Internally it has over 500 sounds, most are good, some are corny. I'd say it's a good multi-purpose synth for someone on a budget. Lots of polyphony, good drums, nice effects, lots of web support. And its blue shell looks cool (though made of cheap plastic).
One thing I notice is that it sometimes locks up when running MIDI tracks with the GM sounds and playing along on the keys. Other than that I recommend this to anyone who wants a super cheap keyboard with lots of features. I sold my Korg M1 for it and I never regretted it.

I used this board on most of my productionz. (Kottonmouth kings,Big beat sample cd -bigfish audio,Corp Avenger ..etc) AND i programmed the shit out of it . i love it and those who pass it off as a toy probably don't sound any better on any other synth..

Have you noticed how dull the CS1x sounds? I wonder if it's because of the low price that they couldn't make good D/A-converters... It's a shame, since some of the sounds are really great and for example, the theremin leadsound is really superb. I'm thinking of buying an external module to accompany my setup, since I kinda like the feel of CS1x's keyboard. -1 point for the lack of crystal-clear sound...
