itz great as a controler, oviously not pro level but it werkz fer me. lotz of good soundz too, really really easy ta use. and at tha use'd price now($250-$350), u really can't go wrong. don't xpect too much from it though. like, I wouldn't have it as my only synth. if ur lookin' for a good, inexpensive first synth, I'd get a korg N5, itz better for seqin' in multitimbral mode.

I am a member of a DeMode (DepecheMode revival band from Prague).We are using CS1X. I think that this synth is very good for modern analog modeling.Sounds of this synth is more bright than E-Mu synths-maybe.But the price is in another relation than E-mu. Enjoy.

this synth is good and i know that a lot of people feel very unsatisfied, but i think that if you really want to take this synth where you want it to go and if you think it is to much hassle the best thig you should do is get yourself a nice phrase sampler and a nice fx processor. the sounds are great and even though i might be unhappy with some (actually a lot) of the sounds, just put some time in to tweek the different parameter with the buttons and the knobs- and man- you can totally change the sound. the thing that sucks about this thing is the bitch it can be when sequencing. i only used it with cakewalk, but it is tuff to organize your sounds even on that, but there is no problem with changing the parameters during sequencing, i don't know why evervone complains about control change, just use sync it up with a good keyboard with loads of knobs-it works

Pros: - Cheap - Very good value-for-money - Exellent effect units - Easy accessible user interface - Knobs (no big deal these days, though) - Built-in MIDI interface
Cons: - Sound quality a bit thin at times - Too few parameters to edit - Not multitimbral - Many PCM's sound the same
This synth is definately a good buy for the hobby user. A modern unit with reasonbly sound quality (depends on the music genre) + effects at a low price. The lack of multitimbrality can be mended using keysplit (drums in low end, then bass, then organ or the like). No good stand-alone synth, though.

it's not a stand-alone synthesizer, especially with the performance voice limitations in midi sequencing. but the CS1x will provide you with a limitless variety of sounds. So if you want a CS1x and you want to mix thicker tunes, buy a sampler too, and layer the sounds that way. You honestly can't go wrong wiht this unit, unless you're looking for a workstation for your $400, which this is definitely not. I've had mine for just over a year now, and if you take the time to maybe explore the synthesizer a bit, you will end up being satisfied. Instant gratification, this will not provide. if you want effortless tunes, try a roland groove machine or something. For what it is, i give 4/5, in consideration of the average construction quality (could be a little more durable, but that all depends on how you take care of it.)
