Phil a part-timer user from USA writes:
I got this synth with little faith in it... purely because I got a great trade for it... and I must say I'm very impressed. The sounds are very mutable and morphable. The "analog" sounds are great for an XG synth. The internal effects are clean and useful. Like a lot of the others who've posted here, I'd say it can hardly be beat for the price. The filters are really sharp and the real time control is extensive. They can be had for about $350 or even less and it's a lot of synth for that. Note the word "synth". The acoustic sounds in it are not great at all... but that's not what you buy this kind of board looking for, now is it? Would be a 3.5 or 4... but at the price I have to go for a 5 too.

All I really have to say is...after reading all these posts, I must confess I think anyone who'd say the mc303 is better than any other box out there must be on some kind of funky dope. The whole roland grOoVeLiNE bullshit is just a way to get more people to spend $800 on complete trash - and although the cs1x has been coined as a techno synth, it is NOT trash, especially for the money. I'd take one of these over an mc303 crapbox any day of the week, and I'm sure anyone else who's played both of them will agree :P 5/5 for the price. -sinaddr

Fear a part-timer user from Poland writes:
No, no, no. You'd betha get AN1X (I know it's double as expensive). CS1X is not what meets my expectations. Sounds are pretty dull. It has been the very first 'real' synth I heard (after CASIO and Yammie PSR era) and I was pretty amazed at first. But then... Roland MC 303 is really better. Thicker sounds, better drum sets. CS1X is a pretty stubborn thing, doesn't want to cooperate with PC via MIDI as it should, as far as I know you cannot receive arpeggiator grooves via MIDI (!!), it can be controlled by MIDI Clock (this sux). My advice is: NO.

Sir a professional user from N/A writes:
First of all, a lot of the people here who rated the cs1x 1-2, hardly know it according to what they've said, so I'd ignore them if I were you.

Now, several things about the CS1x:

1)True that it can use only one performance sound, that's a bit of a drag but then, you can use channels 5-16 on your seq to use all the sounds that make the performance that good.

2)You get 450 xg format sounds, just to remind you all, xg tops it all XG > GS > GM.

3)Analog options and knobs, very cool!!!

4)128 preset sounds + 128 user's and an ability to use syx messages (load patches of your own and others).

5)Easy to edit new sounds.

6)Great Sounds to my opinion.

7)Very low price for what you get.

8)Litreature - The Blue Book - Advanced User's Guide.

9)It won't get a rank 5 from me because it isn't perfect, nothing is!
