I am a bass player who is into progressive and space type rock. Seriously into Ozric Tentacles. I was'nt sure what to buy, I just knew that I wanted a synth that was digital and analog. I considered the roland jp8000, and yamaha an1x. The day that i bought the cs1x I was trying out a Korg n5, then after telling the salesperson what i was into, he recommended the cs1x. I spent the next hour playing with the cs1x and fell in love with it! I could'nt believe what it could do for the price, I paid 599.00 plus the tax. I was wondering if any experinced cs1x users out there could offer any tips as i am completely new to the synth experience.

Bloody brilliant. Before buying this machine, I past about 8 months deciding which keyboard to buy. I bought this one as it was a great keyboard and midi controller for a very low price. When I started playing it I was marvelled with it. I hate dance music and buying a techno keyboard was kind of stupid but as far as I tried, this is a great machine Black Metal and specially for Industrial. I'm starting a new Insuatrial project just because of this keyboard.

The Dark Prince of Cornhole a hobbyist user from Far, far out writes:
Again, If you have a good sequencer, you can have a performance on MIDI ch 1-4, and THEN have any of the 900+ material voices on the other MIDI channels. Make sure you get the blue book and visit the website "CS1x Archive" tips section. Good machine, lot of kicks for the cash.

William a hobbyist user from Redmond, WA writes:
I bought one for the killer price of $550 US. I was able to use Cakewalk to create sequences using all of the voices (although the method for doing this is a bit circuitous, it is possible). Make no mistake, you CAN use all of the performance "material" voices, but you need a good sequencer to do it. The XG voices are weak, but probably would be acceptable layered in a mix. The fact that it is sample-based just kills it for me. Yes, it's got knobs. Yes, it can make analog-like sounds. NO, IT IS NOT AN ANALOG SYNTH. If you want analog-type sounds, be prepared to spend some serious programming time. And even after your best efforts, there is only so much you can do because the samples come with their own built-in envelopes (unlike the pure oscillator of the analog synths which you crave). The CS1x sounds are not as rich and satisfying as I had hoped. I still can't decide if I like it or not. In my mind, it doesn't come as close to "analog" as Yamaha wants you to think it will when you're standing there in the store deciding whether or not to buy it.
