Just want to add that the XG bank sounds pretty good! Nice samples there. The piano is ok, acoustic and electric (jazz) guitars are smooth and warm. Drums are usable in many tunes. I find myself using the XG bank more and more. Just add some effects and the patches will work out fine! For trance/techno music, the performance mode is perfect. Also you can create pretty nice pads and keyboards. I'm not much into making music using pre-programmed loops and arpeggios, but I guess they will fill their purposes. Overall this synth is maybe a 3 but since it's probably the coolest thing you can get for this price I give it a 4.

There seems to be a lot of negative feeling toward this little keyboard, and much snobbery as to the "hobby" or toylike nature of the CS2X. I have found that with a little bit of creative layering of the Performances, subtle effect blending and general creativity, I could make the rather thin and "dancey" patches into interesting, phat noises. Not only is it a breeze to Program, but the huge variety of sounds make this keyboard a wonderful tool. I have created some particularly evil and distorted synth/guitar sounds like honestly sound like a nightmarish guitar run through a computer! Strings and other acoustic instruments are very clean and convincingly accurate. If you are willing to sit down and re-write the sounds on this synthesizer, you will be very gratified indeed.
