Whether you want to call this a toy or whatever, it is a ton of fun. This was actually my first piece of electronic gear and I learned a lot from it. It was my introduction to mixing, sampling, sequencing, effects processing, midi, and music creation and production in general. The sound quality is pretty tight as well. I even use my Roland 606 to grab samples from the DJX's internal banks because they sound awesome. People like to act all cool by calling themselves professionals and bashing on the DJX 2. Give me a break. Hand this over to Fatboy Slim or the Chemical Brothers and they will put you so called professionals and your high end gear to shame. It's all about the user, not the gear. Of course the DJX 2 has it's limitations, but that's the best way to learn the process of production/creation...minimalism. Even though I now own thousands of dollars worth of gear, I still pull this unit out for inspiration and instant fun. I could say more, but you get the point. I give it a 4/5.

Great beat machine. This thing has over a couple of hundred patterns in it. In the hands of some1 who knows what they are doing the possibilities are endless. Each and every single part can be soloed. You can chop and slice up the individual parts and come with some pretty cool rhythmns. I can't believe these things sold for $350 brand new they were worth way more than that. This is my second one. Any1 who works with loops and sequenced based music on a professional level will automatically see the potential it possesses. I have literally owned almost every workstation and groove machine made in the last six years. For the price there going for now it is definitely a steal.

first djx was really cool...well built as a matter of fact i took a fit and beat it all up...slamed it across the room and stomped it...and a friend came over and said what u want for it ...i said take it...it still worked...peices hanging off it...i have had two of them...i love them...lots of fun...well built...i orderd a djx2 and if it dont sound good i like the color...love the grey keys..I might paint them another color...anyway its a pass time....hobbie...djx 1 is tough it stood up to me...and still kick out a beat after i beat it...yamaha makes good keyboards.

As a former professional, i was simply looking for an instrument to introduce me to the current trends in electronic music. I was also curious to see if I still had that natural creativity that had drawn me to music in the first place. Well, the DJXII has been an excellent low cost teaching aid and i have recently copywrited and sold three rhythm arrangements to a nationally known rapper!All done using my DJXII as the platform! Iam now ready to aquire some of the more sophisticated electronic midi platforms available.

when i was first looking at this keyboard it was the original djx "blue" I was simply tinkering around with numerous entry level keyboards at media play (ZERO EXPERIENCE) and came across this odd looking gem. A couple of minutes later, i was hooked.Unfortunately, i never acted quick enough and had to settle for the second generation.
Yes...it does look like a toy. At times it sounds like a toy. Not a toy. A very unique piece of equipment that was a starting point for myself in learning many basics and key elements that would be needed to lay the foundation for producing electronic music.(The so called pros who bash.... you really should show a little more humility.. need to remember,you all had a starting point. I doubt too many beginners could pick up a triton and simply " go to town " on it.)
Call it what you want.This gem is a teaching tool! Before I could ever pick up my Korg Em1 or roland 307 i needed a starting point.Thank you yamaha for catering to joe peasant! I learned a very comfortable amount to keep me interested without it being overwhelming.( try giving your friend with no music experience a roland 307 and the nice little manual that goes with it....)with the djx, I learned about transposing, progression, basic filtering,panning,pitch,basic sampling,basic midi, etc.. (Go ask the kids up the street to tell you about resonance or what a ring modulator does.) A WHUUT??? Ok....can we please stop calling this a toy now? Those of us who own them and have really taken the time to explore, know that this thing has much more depth and personality than anyone expected. I now have my Djx sitting proudly amongst its big brothers of supposed higher stature and lineage. Now plugged into a dsp virtualizer which runs into my wave recorders and finally on to acid pro 4.0 I am able to pull some amazing and exotic sounds that have many in awe and disbelief that i paid a paltry 279.99 us dollars for something that took such a bashing.Perfect for anyone who wants to get their feet wet!Thanks again to yamaha.I am now able to create and express. A great starting point! God Bless
