I am an amateur recording artist who primarily actualy plays rock music. I got this keyboard for it's effects and they do not dissapoint. It has some great features good analog sounding synth leads, a ribbon controller(that is a rare and valuable asset in my style music), once again effects, wah, distortion, ring mod, etc. Also you can control the effects in real time depth and speed. Downfalls 1. no touch sensitivity(however I remedy this by midi controlling the djx2 with my ensoniq esq1). 2. no sustain pedal jack wtf(however once again if you simply have another keyboard with a general midi that does have a sustain pedal jack problem solved)3. Cutoff and Res knobs only work on the pattern parts not on voices.4. Effects can not be combined(only thing that holds it back from being every bit as powerful as a zoom or digitech multi effect guitar pedal)
Just some random notes: This is not a good piano keyboard it has no grand piano emulation and a limited amount of piano/organ/string voices.It is a great electro/dance keyboard alot of the square and saw voices along with synth pads sound even better after controlling it with a touch sensitive keyboard. This is the first keyboard I've owned(had 6) that has an electric guitar sound that I can at least slightly stand. No arpegiator on it but honestly alot of the effects that are on here are better without one anyway and make up for it to some extent.I have no idea what the speakers are like I never use them I either listen through headfones or plug it through my Roland Cube and Alesis Sumo amps and it sounds great through them.

Ok we all have had 7 years to check the Yamaha DJX II out some love it, some like it some and some hate it. You know what that means don't you? You need to try it for yourself. I got the blue one first love it and still have it 8 years now, then I tried the DJX II B loved it bought 3 of them I still have 2 so I got the DJX II and fell in love again. Now heres my secret I run my 4 DJX pieces thru a mixer and a good sound system. They may look like toys but a good sound system price less. And yes I am a pro I've owned many pro keyboards Fender Rhodes, Roland Juno 1,2,6,60 and 106 Korg M1, Poly 61, Trinity 76, Triton Studio 88 Arp 2600 Moog's Minimoog Alessis QS8.1 etc. So for the money it's worth it,if you don't like it sell it on Ebay someone will buy it quick. PS they are getting hard to find, so its an easy resale.

ok - i bought this keyboard to supplement my sequencing set-up, i wanted some phat yamaha bass and drums - which it provided quite adequately. but after using it as a drum-machine for a session with my band, i got into the onboard grooves a little deeper, and tried out the organ sounds - i was taken aback by just how damn funky this keyboard actually is!!! with the organ sounds playing - switch on the stereo pan and hey presto... instant swinging leslie simulation that knocked me out of my seat! no one - not even yamaha seem to have mentioned this - i own a "real" organ, and the sound matches up to more expensive synths that i use. style-wise, it looks like a cheesy toy-organ, but listening to playback you wouldn't know it!

Basic cheesy limited its all those things but yet still very useful. Easy to use and the sounds are so much better than most groove material you get. Its kind of a toy but music really is what u make of it. I bought mine second hand and broke at that. The distortion appears to be on permenately. But I've grown to love it for that reason. It sounds f!@#$%, I mean horrible really bad, awful even. Nothing like the ones I demoed back in the day. But again that's why I like it. Got it for cheap and that my point. If you think it will serve some purpose buy it, its cheap. U drop, mod it, throw it, let your dog play with it whatever its cheap. They seem to go for a little over a hundo and I think its worth that much (though I got mine for far less).

Whether you want to call this a toy or whatever, it is a ton of fun. This was actually my first piece of electronic gear and I learned a lot from it. It was my introduction to mixing, sampling, sequencing, effects processing, midi, and music creation and production in general. The sound quality is pretty tight as well. I even use my Roland 606 to grab samples from the DJX's internal banks because they sound awesome. People like to act all cool by calling themselves professionals and bashing on the DJX 2. Give me a break. Hand this over to Fatboy Slim or the Chemical Brothers and they will put you so called professionals and your high end gear to shame. It's all about the user, not the gear. Of course the DJX 2 has it's limitations, but that's the best way to learn the process of production/creation...minimalism. Even though I now own thousands of dollars worth of gear, I still pull this unit out for inspiration and instant fun. I could say more, but you get the point. I give it a 4/5.
