All DX synths are weird, so only weird people appreciate them. My DX21 appears to be particularly fond of creating complex, ear catching sounds as well as subtle, spacious pad sounds. Of course, it also finds hanging up and making crackles very advantageous too. Even the hiss from the output is weird! My advice is not to buy a DX unless you are fully prepared for the mind damage. If your mind is already damaged then buy a couple of them... but always be alert.

I noticed a couple of people on here looking for DX21 manuals.

I tried emailing, but some of the addresses didn't work (Amanda!)

Anyway, I've still got the original manuals that came with my DX21

if anyone is interested in getting a photocopy. Warning: I'm trying to sell my DX21, so I won't have these manuals

indefinitely. So act today while supplies last! :-) OK, here's my review: I got mine in 1986 and loved it! I played out for

a couple of years with a CCM band in Raleigh NC. Favorite sounds: NewElectro,

Ham'n'Eggs, Elec Bass, Electro Tom. I also liked to layer the Silk Cello

with the Glocken sound, and in split mode I liked putting Heavy Synth on

the low end with Piano Bells on top. So why am I selling it? Well, I don't play out anymore and I finally

bought a "real" piano: a gorgeous 46" Yamaha P22 (check it out at

www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/DsplyModel/?ACU00002P22 I thought about keeping the DX21 but I'd rather see someone use it

instead of it just gathering dust in my basement.

I didnt fully appreciate the DX-21 when I wrote the last review I did. I was doing some major experimenting....now I really understand how to make my own great sounds. I think the EPs you can get out of this thing sound better than real EPs. If you use effects on it it sounds much better...put some flange on the EP. Get your bass..put some delay on it...as for strings...reverb or chorus... Very versatile synth. If you dont have any DX synths...this one is probly the best 4op one. If you think "oh digital synths stink" well this synth proves you wrong. My Favorite sounds are:

New Electro, Heavysynth, Easy Clav, Clear Clav, Solid Bass, Fifth String, Synthe Bass, Kotokoto, 6 tease, and of course Punk Funk i'd buy it again....in fact i'd pay up to 400 bucks! yet before i thought it was worth less. Alot of them Detroit Techno guys use this synnth but i dont like Detroit Techno. buy it!
