This's a great nd legendary machine! It's sound cool nd easy listening in a band. Now i have Korg Karma, that's good, but my Yamaha DX-7II and Roland Juno are in my favor too!

Hey I saw my first DX-7 mkII a while back and decided I needed one. Doesn't everyone? I have played with it alot and with my very limited skill in programing was able to come up with some very usfull sounds. As an animator it is great for constructing simple effects. I have used this for everything from Gunshots to Alien dialoge. After coupling with another SYNTHer I have now got a studio containing my MKii a CS1-x and a Juno 106 along with sequensers and all the rest. I think our studio is complete in the vintage market save for the Moogs. This SYNTH will never let you down!

I think the key to understanding the problems that many people have with the DX 7 lies in it`s unusual construction. Programming a DX 7 is, like Brian Eno puts it, a totally new approach to synthesis. And, in my view, more related to mathematics than to music. The machine itself also looks more like a calculator than like a musical instrument.Very scientific in an uncanny way.. At first, it can sound harsh and very sharp. Then try adding effects. And then try to make use of it`s wonderful keyboard and last but not least the DX 7II`s pan-function. This really makes the effort you put into programming it musically worthwhile. But the realm you go into trying to understand ways to program it is on a totally different level than the realm, in which you express yourself musically... Very unintuitive. But you tend to forget this when you sit with the "finished" sound. Nevertheless, the basic sound of the DX 7 stays a little sterile, far from analogue warmth. If this synthesizer had had the warmth of analogue synthesis on top of it`s great and to this day unexplored programming abilities, it would surely have been the greatest synth of all time.

Owned a friend's DX7-II FD and this one can beat any competition of its time. The keys are of good quality, but the original DX-7 had better ones, but, anyway, they are the fastest I've touched so far. The sounds are damn good, and once you know (and not everyone knows) how to program this baby, you may not need to upgrade soon. As I'm playing mainly at home, I find this synth a little bit hard to have set up, so, if anyonw wants to trade this DX-7 II FD on a Roland D-50, it's available. Anyway, the build quality is good, display is readable, buttons have a very nice "click" sound, the wheels could be of better quality, and it's a little bit heavy for a 5 octave synth (11Kg).

I'm at secondary school and I've been using the DX7ii-D since I discovered it locked in a cupboard. I have loved it since I first learned how to use it, and I disagree with anyone who says that it has very limited posibilities for the kind of voices it can produce. All I can say is "learn how to programme it properly".
I can't understand why everyone finds it so hard to programme.
