The FS1R is really something. There's a reason it fetches such high prices on eBay. It sounds absolutely amazing, particularly when you consider how old it is, how poorly it sold when it was realeased, how well it stacks up against softsynths and what a small form factor it has. There aren't many (or any?) single space units from 1998 that sound this good or are this versatile. Remember, the Kawai K5000r is a double rack unit...
Filters sound wonderful, effects are epic. It's the real deal.

This is an amazing synth. The effects engine alone is quite stunning. The sounds this thing puts out are just unreal. Perfect for the ambience and soundtrack. Increadibly clean, high quality output. Im so happy i found one of these....its got perfect DX7 patches in it...all the 80's sounds you'd ever need/want and they sound so much nicer than the original DX (I sold mine shortly after). Pads are amazing, basses are so digital i love it...and the leads and FX are so uniquiely FM that everyone should have one. Sounds alot warmer and meatier than the FM7/8 vst....ive a/b'd them extensively. It MUST be the converters in the FS1R + good cabling which adds something to the sound.
Honestly....I paid £300 for it and for me...its been very worth it. Suprisingly hard to find, but if you do....enjoy enjoy enjoy :)

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one of these? Please email me djzen2001@yahoo.com. I checked on ebay, but no luck. Im interested in interfacing this thing with my RS-7000. Could I sequence these together? or sample from the FS-1R??

Holy Cow! I've read all the great reviews of the FS1R for a while, and I'm a fan of FM synthesis in general (I still have my DX7II - it does a whole lot more than electric pianos!) I just picked up an FS1R used, and was planning to re-sell on E-bay because I got such a good price...but I'm not letting go of this one! The range of sounds this box puts out is SICK! Beautiful, expressive, EPianos and Clavs, among other great comping sounds, FAT FAT analog-type leads, evolving pads...and it can speak too(?!) This is too cool!
